BNN Report

News from the CBO, MML, BMU, GBRL, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

16 September 2307

CBO Analysis

The 2307 regular season has ended with 10 teams ready to move on to the playoffs for their chance to win the Sole Survivor Series.

NCA
1. Easy Town
2. Sunshine Tidings
3. Nordhagen Beach
4. Starlight
5. County Crossing

We do not have a favorite going into the playoffs other than to say that any of these teams could find themselves in the big series. Easy Town was not able to hold on to the BL lead yet again, but the CBO will not play a tiebreaker game with the Assaultrons owning the season series against Nordhagen Beach, 8-4.

We will preview the Play-in Round in our next update, but we would put most of our money on County Crossing, which went 32-21 since July 1.

SCA
1. Roxbury
2. University Point
3. Jamaica Plain
4. Oberland
5. Spectacle Island

Nothing changed in place in the last week of the season with Spectacle Island earning their way in and only having a loss on the last day of the season keeping them from being the 3rd seed.

Roxbury has not been as dominant in the second half of the season, going 30-23 after July 1, as opposed to 51-16 from April through June. The loss of RF Deerlord Fugivmee (.337/6/47/14 SB) for the playoffs, though Sum Downie (.260/24/78), who started most of the season at 1B, can fill in for him nicely. 1B Duncan MacCready (.240/3/27) will get his chance to start again in the playoffs.

CBO Standings

CBO Statistics

We do not know what might happen in the future. We do know that 1B Barker Cocoa is an official legend and should head up any talks about a Hall of Fame.

Cocoa set eight single-season records, which we will show below, and came up just short in the home run records (60 vs record of 61).

Records set:
AVG - .420
OBP - .558
SLG - .914
OPS - 1.471
R - 130
TB - 380
RBI - 155
WAR - 12.35

Cocoa also is the CBO's first Triple Crown winner, winning the average, home run, and RBI crowns for the 2037 season. In all, Cocoa led the CBO in 16 offensive categories.

MML Playoffs

In the Massachusetts Minor Series, the Abernathy Adamantium (BH) lead the Glowing Sea Radscorpions (Atom) two games to one in the best-of-seven series.

Abernathy 3, Everett 2

After their 11-4 win today at Abernathy Farm Field over the Everett Mutant Hounds, the Abernathy Adamantium will advance to the Massachussetts Minor Series. Abernathy won the series by a 3-2 margin.

Leading the way for the Adamantium was left fielder Skinny Danner, who had a spectacular series and was named MVP.

"I don't play differently in the regular season or playoffs. I just go out and do my best every game," he said. "It's certainly nice to play in the big game, but you can't let it get to your head and change your focus."

The Abernathy Adamantium will play against the Glowing Sea Radscorpions in the next round. Glowing Sea won their series against the Boston Common Lead Bellies 3 games to 1. The Massachussetts Minor Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.

Glowing Sea 3, Boston Common 1

Yip Yick Ping sparked his Glowing Sea Radscorpions past the pesky Boston Common Lead Bellies in a closely-contested League Championship Series.

Glowing Sea topped Boston Common 8-7 at Kittery Point Grounds to decide the series, 3-1

For his efforts, Ping was rewarded with the series MVP trophy for his .294 batting average, 5 RBIs and 1 runs scored.

"You never want to leave anything on the field," Ping said. "You never want to miss a play of defense you could have made, or give up an extra base you could have gotten, because in a series this tight you never know what you'll need to win."

The Glowing Sea Radscorpions don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Everett Mutant Hounds - Abernathy Adamantium series. Abernathy leads the series 2 games to 1. The Massachussetts Minor Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.

BMU Playoffs

The Plymouth Pilgrims (Egr) were good enough to get past the Mystic Pines Raybathers (Obe) at Wattz Park today and secure the 1st championship in franchise history.

"When you wear Pilgrims on your shirt, you're good at something," Plymouth skipper Frank Hermit told the press.

Pilgrims center fielder Hillyer Bryan was named MVP of the series after he went .450 with 1 home run and 4 runs batted in.

"It feels totally incredible," Bryan said. "I could live to 1,000 years old and I'd remember this moment."

The new champions capped off a great season with a 7-5 victory over the Raybathers to win the Boston Minor Series 3-2.

GBRL Playoffs

The Watertown Armorers (FHE) pulled out all the stops tonight, winning the Rookie Series in a hard-fought series with the Tenpines Bluff Manta Men (JP).

It was a seesaw affair, but with a 4-2 victory at Kauffman Stadium, Watertown lay claim to the franchise's 1st championship.

"There's no denying we faced a tough opponent," said Bat Limato. "But as the old saying goes, 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going,' and that's what we did today."

The champs finished the regular season 63-25 and claimed first place in the South League Southwest Division.

A victory parade is set to be scheduled in Watertown in the days to come.
