Does Relationship with a Player Matter Beyond International Amateurs?

I noticed while messing around with filters that not just international amateurs are assigned a relationship level. I noticed that longtime players also seem to have a high score, like Andrew McCutchen with the Pirates. I also noticed that draft players also seem to be assigned a relationship value. When tracking this though, I noticed that relationship seems to drop off heavily after a few seasons. I'm wondering what effects it would have on players beyond international amateurs. It would be fun if it affected things like willingness to resign, odds to choose a specific team in free agency, player morale, and contact demands, but it doesn't quite seem like that is the case in non-International Amateur cases based on my experience. Does anyone know if there is an explanation of what all relationship does for different stages of players, and how it is managed?
