BMU Analysis
Like the MML, there is only one division not tight: the Dark Hollow Pond League where Taffington Boathouse (Egr) leads by eight games. In the Cambridge League, Mystic Pines (Obe) leads by a game. Suffolk County (ST) and Neponset Park (Sal) are tied at 20-12 in the Downtown Boston League. Mass Pike (Slog) and Forest Grove (FtH) are tied at 23-9 in the Glowing Sea League.
BMU Players of the Month
CA Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 21 Nate Ransom has a lot of baseball ahead of him.
But for now the young Mystic Pines Raybathers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month.
His breakout month featured a .373 average with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
MA Hitter - Zero Nought made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Massachusetts Association this past month.
The Somerville Place Sentry Bots third baseman shined through the month of May and has won the Batter of the Month award.
The 19-year-old hit .475 with 12 home runs, 30 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
CA Pitcher - Kareem Leroyson had an outstanding May -- so good that the Commonwealth Association presented him with the Pitcher of the Month Award earlier today.
"There's no way to know where the Raybathers would be without Leroyson," one fan is quoted as saying.
In May Leroyson dominated the competition, running up a 4-1 record, a 2.29 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 39.1 innings.
MA Pitcher - High Pockets Muse of the Tricentennials bewildered opposing batters in May and was honored as the Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month earlier today.
The Mayoral Shelter starter sparkled last month with a 4-0 record and 1.82 ERA. He made 4 starts, tossed 29.2 innings and had 17 strikeouts.
GBRL Analysis
Like the MML and BMU, there is only one division where a team has a huge lead. That is in the Southeast Division where the Park Street AntAgonizers (Sal) have a nine-game lead. Other division leaders are Med-Tek (Quin) by a game in the Northeast, Nuka Express (Star) by a game in the Northwest, and Pioneer Park (FtH) by a game in the Southwest.
GBRL Players of the Month
NL Hitter - When Weston DeGurlz stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the North League Batter of the Month award.
The young Med-Tek left fielder posted a .400 batting average with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 20 runs. DeGurlz also worked pitchers for 15 walks to post a .500 on-base percentage.
SL Hitter - Jericho Cane has a lot going for him. The Pioneer Park shortstop just broke into the majors this year and now the South League has just picked him as its top hitter for May.
In 20 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .487 with 5 home runs, 17 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
NL Pitcher - Silk Inflosse is the latest North League Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Med-Tek starter stood out on the hill time and again last month and finished May with a sparkling 5-0 record.
In 5 starts last month, he fanned 42, walked 13 in 37.2 innings and posted a 1.67 ERA. Inflosse held opposing teams to a .154 batting average when he was on the mound.
SL Pitcher - No doubt about it!
Park Street starter David Lunchtime earned his South League Pitcher of the Month award.
He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in May.
During the month Lunchtime chalked up a 5-0 record with a 1.66 ERA.
The AntAgonizers star made 5 starts and surrendered 26 hits in 43.1 innings. He struck out 39 and walked 6.
BCAC Analysis
In the first season of the BCAC, there are only two of eight teams above .500: Northeastern University and Boston College, both at 24-16 in the South Division. In the North Division, Bunker Hill University has the lead at just 20-20. One-time North Division leader, Tufts University, now has the BCAC's worst record at 17-23.
This week, the BCAC will reach its midway point on its 86-game schedule, and then have the All-Star Break next week.
