CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Maxx Murtagh battered North Charles Association pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Murtagh told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 21 games, Murtagh hit .373 with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

Looking at his season stats, Murtagh has compiled a .362 batting average and a .452 on-base percentage, while hitting 25 home runs and driving in 57 runs.

SCA Hitter - On the heels of a very productive June, Barker Cocoa received South Charles Association Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested first baseman hit .348 for the University Point Deathclaws and racked up 11 home runs, 26 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

This year Cocoa is batting .332 with 20 home runs and 56 RBIs.

NCA Pitcher - When Brian Bridges takes the hill, there's a good chance for a Sunshine Tidings victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 6-0 mark and a 2.49 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 47 innings, fanned 31, and held enemy hitters to a .217 average.

That's why the Chemists star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the North Charles Association.

For the year Bridges has a 9-4 record with a 3.56 ERA in 16 starts.

SCA Pitcher - Tup Mallory was firing on all cylinders in the month of June with 5 wins as he steamrolled all South Charles Association opposition on his way to the Pitcher of the Month award.

During the month Mallory was 5-0 with a 2.13 ERA. He made 5 starts, tossed 38 innings and had 39 strikeouts.

To this point in the season Mallory has 8 wins and 4 losses and a 4.53 ERA.

NCA Rookie - Shaak Ti is turning heads by putting up some spectacular numbers and today he collected the North Charles Association Rookie of the Month Award.

The 25-year-old Starlight starting pitcher threw 34 innings in June, registering a 3-2 record, 3.18 ERA, 22 strikeouts and 17 walks.

This season, Ti has 9 wins and 5 losses and a 3.92 ERA.

SCA Rookie - Tony Two-time is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Goodneighbor hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .282 average with 22 hits, 5 home runs and 17 RBIs.

Presently Two-time is batting .303 with 8 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has played in 56 games and scored 23 times.

MML Analysis

Teams have played 61 of the season's 108 games now. The Abernathy Adamantium (BH) still have the best shot to hold onto the lead for the remainder of the season, now up eight games on second-place Graygarden (UP). Other division leaders are Everett (V81) of the Murtagh Division, Providence (Sal) in the Williams Division, and Warwick (Star) in the Yastrzemski Division.

Next week, the league will have its All-Star weekend.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Massachusetts Minor League, Syd Thriftstore put up some good numbers in June and earned the LL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Watertown's offensive leaders with a .412 average in 21 games. He also racked up 14 home runs, 30 RBIs, and 21 runs scored.

In the 2308 season Thriftstore is hitting .377 with 21 home runs.

SL Hitter - Today Will Wallace was voted Stars League Batter of the Month for July. During the month the 21-year-old Providence right fielder compiled a .430 batting average.

Most importantly for the Warlocks though, he also posted 4 home runs, 19 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

For the year Wallace is hitting .300 with 5 home runs. His stats include 30 runs batted in and 38 runs scored.

LL Pitcher - Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Bow Rome still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 40-year-old starter for Graygarden was named Legends League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 14 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 3.79 ERA in 40.1 innings of work.

In 16 starts this season Rome has chalked up a 8-6 record and a 4.60 ERA.

SL Pitcher - The Stars League announced today that Gwinnett Southie has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The Sandwich starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 3-1 record.

In June Southie chalked up a 1.14 ERA in 39.1 innings with 26 strikeouts and 7 walks.

This year Southie has made 14 starts, thrown 93.2 innings, fanned 60 batters and walked 15. His won-lost record is 4-6 with a 3.07 ERA.
