Jack Whillock
Jack Whillock, 79, of Arlington, Texas, passed away December 20, 2021. He was born in Searcy, Arkansas on November 4, 1942. Jack graduated from Clinton High School and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Arkansas. Jack was married to Mary Whillock for 27 years. He had a career in professional baseball for 11 years before working in sales for Sewell Automotive Companies. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Arkansas and had a passion for baseball, all sports, and warm beaches. - digitalmemories.com
As a 28-year-old, he appeared in what was the entirety of his career during the Summer of 1971, seven games total, going 0-2 with a 5.63 earned run average in eight innings of work. Sadly, for him he wouldn't make it back to a Big-League mound again, toiling another three years in the Minors before calling it quits after the 1974 season, when he played in the Cleveland Indians system. All told, he put in 11 years as a pro, originally in the St. Louis Cardinals organization in 1964, but alas a Major Leaguer for just those seven games in August and September of 1971. - whentoppshadballs.com
Having spent some time this morning researching him, he was clearly beloved by his family. They were kind enough to upload many pictures. To get the image I sought (the Tiger's picture) I used a photo of him after his playing days and removed the mustache.
