Season Series
Bunker Hill 1, Oberland 0
April 7 @Obe: BH 4-0
Analysis
We are in our first Sole Survivor Series battle of the numbers when the Bunker Hill 75ers face off against the Oberland T-51s. We are also in our third-straight #1 seed from one association versus the #3 seed from another association matchup with the seeds splitting, though the NCA won the last two championships. The 75ers are making their first Sole Survivor Series appearance, while Oberland is making its second, a 2297 victory over Nordhagen Beach.
Bunker Hill was good and gets home-field advantage due to having a 1.5-game advantage in the overall record. That advantage is due in part to their one game versus the T-51s in the regular season where the 75ers came out on top, 4-0. The top players to watch for Bunker Hill are 1B Matt Stickhouse and SS Aaron Squire.
For the T-51s, they fulfilled PAM's preseason prediction of being the top team in the SCA. Oberland took advantage of Roxbury having a down year to win the Railroad League for the first time since 2298, which had marked three-straight league titles. For the T-51s, they have a lot of star power with the Series MVP watchlist coming down to RF Orcin Cardinal, SS Stormin Normin MacDonald, or 1B Chase Doctorman. Whatever the result, we expect to see lots of runs in this one.
Overall, these are the statistical matchups:
In the expected lineup vs lineup matches, Oberland slightly has most of the advantages, though a best vs best matchup would slightly gavor the 75ers for offensive production. Throughout the lineup, though, the T-51s hold most of the advantages.
All BH vs Obe
C - Darth Horse (.197/9/40) < Racky Westheim (.319/7/47)
1B - Matt Stickhouse (.323/32/85) > Chase Doctorman (.259/26/64)
2B - Emerald Sapphire (.265/7/37) < Da Game (.303/13/72)
3B - Grool Manycaps (.282/10/43) > Joe Malone (.269/5/48)
SS - Aaron Squire (.339/22/73) < Stormin Normin MacDonald (.353/23/70)
LF - Donny Kowalski (.238/20/44) < Zaire Inquisitor (.287/20/52)
CF - Jig McGhee (.300/20/65) > Good Don Duck (.259/11/51)
RF - Brightsun Ramos (.276/19/60) < Orcin Cardinal (.326/11/51)
In the pitcher vs pitcher matchups, we see it this way:
Games 1, 4, 7 starters - BH SP Jason Tonelli (15-9, 4.11) < Obe SP Trolley Dodge (12-9, 3.78)
Games 2, 5 starters - BH SP Mike Cartrette (9-7, 4.05) < Obe SP Emperry Alizm (18-8, 2.77)
Games 3, 6 starters - BH SP Max Thunderdome (18-7, 4.04) < Obe SP Mesquite Williams (13-8, 3.78)
Closers - BH CL Rafe Sauce (36 SV, 3.65) < Obe CL William Butcherman (28 SV, 1.89)
Best RP 1 - BH RP Harley Buechel (2-2, 4.95) < Obe RP Dan Beantown (7-6, 3.19)
Best RP 2 - BH SP Jerry Weisman (13-9, 4.16) > Obe SP/RP Zaire Inquisitor (7-3, 3.92)
In this case, Oberland is much more dominant overall in pitching and should be able to hold the 75ers' offense down more than Bunker Hill can to the T-51s offense.
Prediction
Oberland just looks too tough. Having easily handled both Spectacle Island and Vault 81, we do not see anymore resistance by Bunnker Hill, though we will play this on the safe side. The 75ers got impressive victories over both Sunshine Tidings and Starlight in showing that they were truly boss in both the Institute League and North Charles Association. We're going to go conservative and pick this one to go six. Oberland 4, Bunker Hill 2
