2308 Sole Survivor Series: Bunker Hill vs Oberland
Game 6: Bunker Hill 11, Oberland 5
Stickhouse Blasts T-51s, 75ers Take Game 6, 11-5
The Bunker Hill 75ers knotted up the Sole Survivor Series at Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial Stadium today, thanks in large part to first baseman Matt Stickhouse. Stickhouse was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 as he overpowered the Oberland T-51s, enabling Bunker Hill to grab the 11-5 win and move into a 3-3 tie in the best-of-7 series.
Grool Manycaps, the Bunker Hill third baseman, contributed a 2-run double in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 6-3, 75ers. For the game, Manycaps went 1-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Stickhouse.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial Stadium in Boston.
Game 7: Bunker Hill 4, Oberland 2
Bunker Hill Wins Sole Survivor Series!
Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.
It was the latter case in 2308, as the Bunker Hill 75ers topped the Oberland T-51s 4-2 tonight at Battle of Bunker Hill Memorial Stadium to win the Sole Survivor Series. It was the 1st title in franchise history.
Jason Tonelli earned the win with two earned runs allowed in 7.0 innings. Rafe Sauce pitched the final two innings for the save.
The 75ers took control of the low-scoring final game early. In the bottom of the 1st, Brightsun Ramos led off the game with a home run off Oberland pitcher Emperry Alizm. After Jig McGhee walked and Aaron Squire singled, Matt Stickhouse singled to drive in the second run. Emerald Sapphire then walked to load the bases with no outs. With two outs and the bases still loaded, Darth Horse walked for a 3-0 advantage. It was all Bunker Hill needed to win the seventh game.
"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Bunker Hill right fielder Brightsun Ramos, who was named series MVP.
Ramos batted .483 on 14 of 29 batting with four doubles, three home runs, three walks, eight RBI, and six runs scored.
The 75ers took the series 4-3. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a second-place finish in the North Charles Association Institute League and a 75-46 record.
Bunker Hill manager Puddin Greenwall grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Ramos's words.
"Brightsun said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.
Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
