Introduction
I’m a long time sports simulation player, mostly Football Manager (from when it was Championship Manager in the 90s) and discovered OOTP when I moved to Texas for school in 2009. I’ve played on and off over the years and this year thought I would try something different and write about my save… thanks for reading.
I am no baseball (or OOTP) expert but enjoy developing players and the GM side the most although I play as GM & Manager to keep more control over the line ups and pitching.
The idea for the save is simple – sim the first three seasons and then take whatever job I am offered at the end of the 2026 season. My expectation is that it will be a team coming off a poor season, which hopefully means a good draft position and an excuse to trade away any talent for a rebuild.
My style (nothing original):
- Build a club fans connect with - that means homegrown talent and, at the risk of dynasty building, locking up those homegrown stars to long-term contracts where appropriate.
- Prioritise defence up the middle
- Contact for hitters
- Stuff for pitchers.
- Bullpen setup (online stolen): 2 stoppers supported by middle relievers and maybe one long reliever.
The next post will be from the end of the 2026 season where we will find out whose fortunes we will be trying to turn around…
