Rookie Draft Preview
OSA scouts have updated their Mock Draft less than a week from the 2308 Rookie Draft.
With Concord holding the first-overall pick, OSA scouts believe they will take SS Slip Knotty of Green Future. Scouts believe that Knotty will be a stronghold at the SS position and be a middle-of-the-lineup hitter once he fully develops. Knotty is a big SS at 6'3" and has the frame to be both powerful and lanky enough to have a large range on the infield.
The scouts' top player, CF Ziggy Stardust of Needham, is expected to go 7th overall to Atom. Stardust is considered a five-tool player who could dominate at the top of a lineup through a combination of good contact and power, as well as stellar speed for running the bases. He is also considered the top defensive outfielder in the 2308 draft with great range to get to almost any ball.
The first pitcher expected to come off the board is SP Sluggo Pyne of Beantown to Goodneighbor at 5th overall. Though he was injured for most of the 2307 season, Pyne is expected to develop into a three-pitch pitcher with great stuff and movement on his pitches. Both his fastball and splitter are much better than his changeup, so he will need to develop that pitch and probably work on a fourth pitch, like a curve.
The first college player expected to come off the board is CF Sting McGee of the CIT Engineers as the 6th pick of the 2nd Round to the Hancocks. McGee was considered a top prospect at West Quincy which was considered a career-ending injury at the time. However, after help from reconstructive surgery at the Institute, McGee was able to rehabilitate his shoulder and joined the Engineers for the 2308 season to resurrect his career. In 57 games with CIT, McGee batted .346 with 45 runs scored, 25 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.
