July 1-7, 2024
Transaction: Jose Caballero comes off the IL and Oselvis Basabe goes back to Durham.
July 1: Off Day.
July 2: at Kansas City 2-9 L. LP-Pepiot (7-5, 5 5 3 3 2 5). Nothing pretty about this one.
July 3: at Kansas City 3-1 W. WP-Littell (4-4, 6 3 1 1 4 5). S-Fairbanks (14). HR-Paredes (19). Littell was sharp and Paredes drove in all 3 runs with a 2-run homer and a sac fly.
July 4: at Kansas City 9-2 W. WP-Bradley (4-2, 7 9 2 2 1 7). HR-Mead (3), Torkelson (1). A 7-run 5th keyed by Mead's grand slam led the Rays to their third straight series win. Also our long national nightmare is over as Spencer Torkelson finally hit his first homer of 2024 - not just with us but for the entire season.
July 5: at Texas 3-4 L. LP-Baz (2-2, 5.2 6 4 4 0 4). HR-Y.Diaz (7), Pinto (7). Rays came up just short in this one but Yandy stayed toasty going 2-4 with a homer.
July 6: at Texas 9-2 W. WP-Civale (6-6, 5 5 1 1 1 8). HR-Paredes (20), B.Lowe (7). Civale was excellent and Luis Campusano drove in 3 with a pair of hits.
July 7: at Texas 2-7 L. LP-Pepiot (7-6, 4 7 4 4 1 8). HR-Paredes (21). Pepiot fanned 8 but couldn't keep the ball in the park, giving up 3 homers as the Rays dropped the series.
Record: 41-49. Next week: An off-day before a homestand that brings the Yankees and Cleveland each in for 3 games before we hit the All-Star break. Also the Amateur Draft where we'll have the 18th overall pick.
Players of the Week:
AL: Evan Carter (TEX) 14-25, 4 HR, 14 RBI. He did much of that damage against us, including a 2 HR, 5 RBI game in the series finale.
NL: Jazz Chisholm Jr. (MIA) 14-25, 2 HR, 6 RBI.
