May 7-9, 2055: vs Detroit (3)

Game 1: The Rays scored 3 times in the 7th to take a 5-2 win over Detroit in their opener at Publix Park. Nesty de la Rosa broke the deadlock with a solo homer (#3) leading off the inning and David Morales added a 2-run double later in the inning to make the margin comfortable. The homer was Nesty's 3rd hit of the day including a triple and he scored earlier on a sac fly from Luis Barela, who also singled home a run. Brad Villarreal (5-1) did his usual thing at 7 5 1 1 1 3 and Mario Berumen converted his 8th save.

Game 2: Tampa Bay comfortably handled the Tigers again, taking the second game 8-3. Jose Lozada was 4-4 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI to lead the way, and for the second straight game Nesty de la Rosa tripled and homered (#4), driving in a pair. Randy Mastropietro (3-1) earned the win at 5.1 6 3 2 1 3.

Game 3: The Rays couldn't quite complete the sweep, falling 3-2 to the Tigers in the finale. Tim Johnson (0-1) was doing well but was left in one batter too many and that resulted in a 2-run double that made it 3-0 and left his final line 5.2 7 3 3 2 4. The bats got a couple back but were quiet otherwise, only eking out 6 hits.

Team record: 23-12. New York also won 2 of 3 so we remain 3 behind. Next up: Those same Yankees visit Publix Park for 3 games, so a chance to put a dent into (or erase) their lead.
