Game 14: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
It took some late-inning heroics, but the visiting Boston Americans (8-6) topped the Washington Senators (8-6) by a 4 to 3 score. With the victory, the Americans moved into a 2nd place tie with four other teams; 1 game behind the New York Highlanders for the American League top spot.
This was a decent performance for both starting pitchers, with Johnny Lush (3-1) picking up the win by limiting the opposition to 3 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 7, though control problems impacted his outing as he allowed 7 walks, 1 wild pitch, 1 hit batsman, and 1 balk; Game Score 69. In the loss, Jack Chesbro (3-1) allowed 4 earned runs on 16 hits to finish with a Game Score 42.
Boston had several fine hitting performances from its lineup, including Bill Lange (4 for 5, Double, 2 Runs), Frank Chance (3 for 4, Double, Run, RBI), Fred Clarke (2 for 4, 2 RBIs), and Danny Shay (3 for 4, Stolen Base). Duff Cooley (2 for 2, Double, Walk) played well in the loss.
Player of the Game: Johnny Lush (Season: #3 / Career: #3)
