For those who didn't get all the deets, yes, it was THAT bad.

On the pregame, the Eternal Optimists tried to make much of the fact that while the Mets were 6-15 in May (6-16 now), they were 5-10 in close (1 or 2-run) games. So if they can just squeeze a few more wins, everything will be fine!

Er, no, guys. Not how it works. That 5-10 in close games means that the Most Expensive Team, Suckers! is only 1-5 in games where somebody dominates. (1-6 after today's collapse.) If you are far more likely to be the ass-kickee rather than the ass-kicker, you shouldn't expect to pull out the close ones.

To quote the old saying, "Good Teams Find a Way to Win; Bad Teams Find a Way to Lose." Hanging on in quiet desperation may be "the English way", to quote Pink Floyd, but it's not a good long-term proposition.

From a 1985 NFL betting diary: "If the games were 50 minutes long, the Bills would be playoff contenders." Yeah, but the reason the Bills kept folding (yswidt?) was because they just didn't have the horses.

At least, Edlose Diaz is still part of a horse…
