The idea of setting up this massive world all at once (all 64 teams) sounds daunting. I love having great logos and graphics and am a stickler for that. But I also just want to play! So I might start my league in 1900 and add teams as they actually came on the scene in real life -- eventually getting to my 64-team universe by the '30s or '40s.

I am smitten with the idea of the 64-team, everyone-qualifies playoff after all the various leagues crown their champions. I did some test runs with a scaled down version of this idea. For the most part, the teams with the biggest budgets dominated as you might expect. But one season, one of the smallest market teams got hot in the playoff and won the whole thing. It was fun to watch.
