Post-ASB Review
It was a disappointing second half of the season for the Royals, a 31-36 record seeing them limp home 5 games behind AL Central champions the Cleveland Guardians (and 7 games out of a
Wild Card spot) with an overall 77-85 record. OSA felt smug as Kansas City finished within a game of the preseason prediction of 78-84. Within a frustrating season, September really put paid the Royals hopes as a 10-16 month was too poor to escape even a mediocre
AL Central.
Trades
The Royals had made one pre-Trade Deadline change to try to ignite the ballclub for the run in.
Waiver claim
Sean Reid-Foley hadn’t performed well since arriving, and adding in AAA 24-year-old
Sam Gerth (acquired in the Nick Ahmed trade), allowed the Royals to pick up 34-year old RHP
Trevor Megill (retaining 50%) from the St. Louis Cardinals, with the Cardinals retaining 50% ($2.6m) of his salary.
Injuries
The Royals did manage to stay reasonably healthy through the back half of the season, although losing
Bobby Witt Jr. for 5 weeks to end the season just about summed up the team’s September.
October- RP Scott Effross diagnosed with a herniated disc, will miss 3 months.
September- RP Liam Norris was injured while pitching. The Diagnosis: strained back. He's expected to miss about 3 weeks.
- SS Bobby Witt Jr. was injured while running the bases. The Diagnosis: strained hamstring. He's expected to miss about 4-5 weeks.

Around the League
Results
The Mets (87-75) made it back-to-back National League Champions, sweeping the Rangers (87-75) for their title since 1986, 42 years ago. The Mets did it the hard way after finishing runners up in the NL East and claiming a Wild Card. On the American League side, all three Wild Card places were taken by teams from the AL East, the Blue Jays coming 4th in the division with a 84-78 record.
Records
Braden Montgomery DET continued the modern trend by setting a new single season record for strikeouts (242) with a 250 strikeout season seemingly only a matter of time. Seven of the top ten strikeout seasons of all time have been recorded in the last three years.
