I assumed that the Braves would easily hold on to an 8 game lead with a month to go, but they lost their first 8 and the Dodgers went 5-3, so their lead has shrunk to 3 as the Dodgers swept their 3 head-to-head games to start the month. They meet up again next week.
Our lead is back up to 4 1/2 over the Rangers. We still have 6 left against them, but we have a dozen games before we play them, so if we can keep up our play, we may make them win at least 5 of 6 to have a chance. Elsewhere, the Sox are still 1 1/2 ahead of the Jays and the Cards are up 14 games.
Bonds has hit his 50th HR, he's just 22 so his career numbers may be more asinine than they are IRL. Our Victor Cruz leads in the AL in wins and ERA and is 3rd in strikeouts. Greg Swindell isn't catchable, but Cruz should win the Cy Young.
But our 2-time defending Reliever of the Year Arthur Martinez has not had a good season. He's 4-4 but with just 21 saves while blowing 7 save opportunities after blowing a total of 7 his his first 2 seasons. His 3.65 ERA after a 1.21 ERA as a rookie and 1.76 ERA last year flatters him a bit. He's our guy though, he's got the job the rest of the season.
