CRYSTAL LAKERS AWAKE; BOMB WILDCATS IN GAME 3
The dormant and quiet bats of the Crystal Lake Skippers suddenly awoke from their slumber to crush the upstart Kenwood Wildcats 9-1 in game three of the Pro Cup Series at the Olde Towne Grounds in Kenwood, thus narrowing their lead to two games to one. The Shippers were desparate for a win to avoid being down 3-0 in the best-of-seven series. Maybe this year's Pro Cup favorite is ready to get back into the series.
The Skippers smashed 13 hits, paced by Gino Lorenzetti (.321) with 3 hits and a grand slam homer. Heck Fraiser (.226) added 3 hits and scored 3 times in the game and Cookie Garland (.308) chimed in with 2 hits, 2 ribbies and 2 runs scored. In addition Crystal Lake ace Lloyd Mason (4-0/2.33 ERA) posted his 4th postseason victory in grand style. He worked 8 innings and stopped the Wildcats on one run and 6 hits. Bret Lynch (1-0/3.38 ERA/4 games) finished up for him with a perfect 9th frame.
Mason and Kenwood starter Jim Singer (1-2/5.03 ERA) were locked in a scoreless duel for the first 4 innings. The Skippers then scorched him for 6 runs in the 5th, highlighted by Lorenzetti's 4-run four-bagger.
