The June Super Post

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Salem Witch Hats fans believe they've got a talented young star in Brian DeLong.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .405 with 11 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

The end result was the right fielder being named the North Charles Association Batter of the Month.

So far this season DeLong has put up a .354 batting average with 62 hits, 15 home runs and 37 RBIs.

SCA Hitter - Donn Mattingley battered South Charles Association pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Mattingley told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Mattingley hit .475 with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 27 runs.

This year Mattingley has 13 home runs and a .375 batting average.

NCA Pitcher - When Doug Creep took the hill in May, he was in charge. The Nahant starter never let the North Charles Association batters get a foothold against him. For his peerless performance, he came away with an impressive 6-0 record and the Pitcher of the Month award.

The talented Celtics hurler made 7 starts, worked 57 innings, permitted 55 base hits, and struck out 41 while putting up a 2.53 ERA.

This year Creep has posted a 8-4 mark in 13 starts and has a 2.97 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - The South Charles Association scribes have picked May's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Exxie Summerset of Vault 81. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 7-0 mark.

The Dwellers star hurler made 7 starts with a 3.31 ERA and surrendered 44 hits in 54.1 innings. He struck out 50 and walked 15.

For the year Summerset has compiled a 12-0 record with a 3.40 ERA.

NCA Rookie - Foo Fieterz earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the North Charles Association for last month's performance. The boyish Fort Hagen right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Fieterz hit .323 with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Fieterz is hitting .287 so far this season with 33 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 50 hits including 13 home runs, 32 walks and .394 OBP.

SCA Rookie - Youngster Makin Jobear emerged as the latest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from FHE deserved the honor, batting .402 with 9 home runs and 20 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Jobear enjoy the limelight.

This year Jobear is hitting .364, produced 35 RBIs and 15 home runs, scored 33 times and gotten on base at a .416 rate.

CBO Top Performances

The top NCA hitting performance of the month came from LF Tom Smithfield of Diamond City. On May 22, Smithfield was 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs, a walk, three runs, and six RBI in a 9-7 win over Oberland. On the season, Smithfield is hitting .333 with 11 home runs and 33 RBI.

Smithfield's performance did not quite live up to the season's best so far. On April 23, LF Donny Kowalski of Bunker Hill lit up Salem on a 5 for 5 day with two home runs, two walks, three runs, and six RBI. His two-run bomb in the bottom of the 13th was the walk-off winner as the 75ers prevailed 10-8. Currently, Kowalski is batting .321 with nine homers and 31 RBI.

SP Justin Sumbich of Spectacle Island had the month's and season's best performance on May 28 against Malden, which has allowed four of the best five pitching performances on the season. For Sumbich, he pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout in a road 2-0 victory for the Reapers. Sumbich walked one and struck out 10 on the day. Sumbich is 9-3 with a 2.87 ERA putting him third in ERA in the SCA.

MML Analysis

In the second month of the season, two divisions maintained the same leaders--Watertown and Plymouth--while two new division leaders emerged at the end of May--Danvers and Providence. With the season approaching its halfway mark, the All-Star break is just two weeks away. We will report on that game once it is completed.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - The Legends League Batter of the Month has been chosen for May and the trophy was presented to Curtain Mora of the Danvers Sonics.

So far this year Pumpkinhead is hitting .359 with 27 home runs.

LL Pitcher - Over the past month Buckweld Shepherd has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Legends League. He proved all that and now he's been named May's Pitcher of the Month.

The rookie for the Burlington Ferals posted 5-1 mark and a 2.24 ERA. In 7 starts he tossed 52.1 innings, permitted 41 hits and fanned 51 batters.

The All-Star game is less than a week away in the 2310 BMU season, and all four leagues are tight heading into the break. In the Dark Hollow Pond League, three teams, Taffington Boathouse, Marblehead, and Tenpines Bluff, are knotted at 27-17. The other three league leaders--Mystic Pines, Neponset Park, and Somerville Place--have either a one or two-game lead.

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Wilde Game certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the CA Batter of the Month award for May.

Game's current batting average stands at .416 and he has chalked up 18 home runs and 52 RBIs.

In 8 starts he tossed 51 innings, posted 41 strikeouts, and put up a 2.82 ERA.

This year Orphan has made 11 starts, thrown 65.2 innings, fanned 55 batters and walked 26. His won-lost record is 5-3 with a 3.43 ERA.

GBRL Analysis

Like the BMU, the GBRL All-Star Game is next week. Three of the four division leaders--Greentop Nursery, Satellite Array, and Poseidon Energy--have three-game leads, while the Greater Mass Vans at 35-9 have a seven-game lead. FHE looks to have a loaded future if their GBRL players continue to progress.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - Cameron Triggs put together a good May to earn the North League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Croup Manor officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Inspectors left fielder posted a .515 batting average with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

This season Triggs is batting .455 with 12 home runs. He has scored 50 runs and driven in 44.

SL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 20 Levitt Aiding has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Greater Mass Vans star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the South League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .347 average with 13 home runs, 31 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

So far in 2310 Aiding is batting .353 with 16 home runs, 46 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has 53 hits in 150 at-bats and a .462 OBP.

NL Pitcher - In May when the Union Hope manager wrote the name "Ranger" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Tex Ranger took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 3.48 ERA in 6 starts. The gifted Lifegivers star pitched 41.1 innings, fanned 55 and held opposing teams to a .244 average.

For his outstanding mound performance Ranger was named the NL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

In the current season in 9 starts, Tex Ranger has a record of 8-0 with 79 strikeouts in 63.1 innings and a 2.84 ERA.

SL Pitcher - Last month's cream of the crop on the mound was Aval Atheron of the Poseidon Energy Mongrels. He captured the South League Pitcher of the Month award for his outstanding performance in May.

BCAC Analysis

There is still a lot of season to play in the college season. With 32 games down, the Harvard Crimson and Commonwealth Terriers are the top two teams. The Crimson are the defending champions, having beaten Mass Bay U in seven games in 2309.

On the month he hit .345 with 10 home runs, 31 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
