CBO Analysis

We are right at the halfway point of the season with 63 of 130 games played. Since our next update will be past the midway point, let's consider this our halftime update.

Note to the CBO, can we get that schedule in fives and tens again? No? OK. With progress there must be change. Looking at the records of teams, there are four in the CBO with 40 or more wins. Three of them play in the Railroad League. Let's look at the Power Rankings and current playoff standings. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

17) Salem Witch Hats (85.7, ++)
18) Nahant Celtics (83.6, -)
19) Diamond City Swatters (76.7, --)
20) Atom Cats (72.4, ++)
21) Goodneighbor Hancocks (71.3, -)

26) Southie Brews (53.4, +)
27) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (41.7, -)

NCA
1. Nordhagen Beach
2. Bunker Hill (leads season series over Sunshine Tidings 3-2)
3t. Sunshine Tidings (season series with The Slog tied 0-0)
3t. The Slog
5. County Crossing
6. Starlight

SCA
1. Egret
2. University Point
3. Roxbury (leads season series over Vault 81 3-2)
4. Vault 81
5. Oberland
6. Spectacle Island

Brotherhood League

With a 9-1 mark in their last 10, Nordhagen Beach is tied with Roxbury for the CBO's best record over that time. The Party Boys now hold a four-game lead over The Slog, followed by County Crossing, Easy Town, Nahant, and Salem for BL teams in the playoff race.

The Party Boys won the Sole Survivor Series last season and two of the past three. They are among the most veteran teams with a bunch of players who have played with the Party Boys for years. One player standing out who has not is 1B Mountainside Rockhand (.322/22/56), the second-year player and former 14th-overall pick in the 2306 Draft. The pitching has been outstanding as usual, too, with Beachboy Nut (7-2, 3.49) the only starter without 10 victories.

Institute League

Bunker Hill and Sunshine Tidings are now dead even in the rush for the IL title. With Starlight getting hot, the league races is also tight among the top three.

For the Killers, they have started to get it together, currently tied for 2nd in runs allowed (245) and 2nd in Starters ERA (3.30). All four starters have an ERA below 4.00: Digger Vadim (5-5, 3.76), Shaak Ti (8-4, 3.02), Whokill Poole (6-3, 3.39), and Bill Sarnacki (6-8, 3.16).

Minutemen League

The ML currently appears to be a three-team race with University Point, Spectacle Island, and Quincy all within three games of each other. While none of them have shown championship ability, all three could be dangerous.

Jamaica Plain has to be one of the most frustrated teams in 2310. With one of the most talented lineups in the CBO, the Red Rockets are 8th in runs scored (296) and 10th in batting average (.255). LF Ken Debate (.300/17/44) and 2B Bulleye Shooterson (.318/15/41) have been doing well but several other typically good hitters have struggled to generate quality at bats. Among those struggling to get hits are CF Hid Matsumoto (.210/9/25) and 1B Carney Cornseed (.222/13.31).

Railroad League

The closest three-team race is in the RL with Egret leading both Roxbury and Vault 81 by just one game. The Rad Sox are tied with the Boys for the best stretch in the CBO and currently are in a seven-game winning streak.

Just four games back, Oberland is also in the race. The T-51s won the RL the past two seasons as part of a three-year stretch in the playoffs and a trip to the Sole Survivor Series in 2308. One aspect of the 2310 team is that the bullpen has been the best in the SCA with the top ERA (3.21). CL William Butcherman (14 SV, 5.54) is not one of them. RP Aaron Geneva (1-0, 1.50), RP Pray Tell (0-0, 2.33), and RP Dave Pain (3-2, 2.38) have picked up the pace.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

June 6 - He was a hard-hitting machine all week long. That's why Andy Stamey of the Malden Grognaks was named the North Charles Association Player of the Week.

For the week the 25-year-old first baseman batted .526 (10-for-19) with 3 home runs, 3 runs and 6 RBIs.

In the 2310 season Stamey is hitting .325 with 15 home runs.

The #1 hitter in the South Charles Association was Oberland right fielder Orcin Cardinal. He was selected as the Player of the Week.

During the week Cardinal banged out a .560 batting average (14-for-25), 5 home runs, 10 runs batted in and scored 8 runs.

This year Cardinal is batting .348 with 72 hits and 14 home runs. He has scored 40 times and has batted in 38 runs.

June 13 - All week long Sleve McDichael was the talk of the North Charles Association... his name and face were everywhere. So it was no surprise to anyone when he was chosen the North Charles Association's Player of the Week for his exceptional performance.

McDichael put up a solid set of stats, compiling a .474 average (9-for-19) and contributing 3 home runs and 10 RBIs to claim the honor.

So far this season, McDichael has recorded a .280 batting average with 53 hits, 8 home runs, 32 RBIs, 32 runs scored and a .396 OBP.

This week Tut Campbell, second baseman for the Roxbury Rad Sox, slashed, mashed and bashed his way to the South Charles Association Player of the Week trophy.

Campbell put up a .536 average as he pounded out 15 hits, no home runs, 7 RBIs and scored 9 runs.

Campbell is presently batting .299 with 2 home runs, 39 runs scored and 28 RBIs. His OBP is .348.
