Reid Detmers gets the ball in the Angels Home Opener. Detmers and Garrett Whitlock were locked in a pitcher’s duel until Rafael Devers homered to Raf with 2 outs in the top of the 4th inning.
Drury tripled to lead off the bottom of the 5th and Rendon followed with a broke bat flair over the drawn in infield to tie the game.
Rendon singled to lead off the bottom of the 7th and, after Leblanc flew out to LF, pinch hitter Connor Joe singled. Neto grounded out (4-3) with the runners advancing to 2nd and 3rd. Rengifo walked to load the bases and Hays delivered in the clutch, hitting a line drive single to give the Halos the lead.
Luis Garcia relieved Detmers to start the 8th and retired the side in order. Carlos Estevez pitched a 1-2-3 9th for the save.
Reid Detmers was outstanding. He pitched 7 innings of 3 hit ball. He allowed the 1 run, struck out 7, and walked 0.
