RICHTER’S 5 RUNS & 5 R.B.I. SPOIL GOTHAM’S SUNDAY
HARLEM OF SHOWING NO SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN; GOTHAM STILL ATOP N.Y.C. AT 11-4

NEW YORK CITY (May 20, 1866) – Gotham entered the end of Week Three with one of the best records in the N.B.B.O, but that did not matter in their game at Mount Morris Square as hosts Harlem were dominant in victory:

In Gotham’s nine-run win, nine of their sixteen hits came from two members of the lineup: C Clive Nicholas & OF Chatham Richter, with the 41-year-old Richter playing like a man ten to fifteen years his junior:

RICHTER
B1: Leadoff 2B to LCF off D. Flynn (R)
B3: Leadoff 1B to CF off D. Flynn (SB, R)
B5: 1-Run 1B to LCF off D. Flynn (SB, R)
B7: Leadoff 1B to CF off D. Flynn (SB, R)
B8: 1-run 1B past 2B off J. Gant (R)
TOTAL: 5/5, 2B, 5 R, 2 RBI, 3 SB
The 5/5 performance took Chatham Richter’s average up to .308 after fifteen games. He has stolen nine bases without being caught and has been a solid positive in a corner outfield position, so thus far in 1866 Richter has not at all played like a man clearly on the wrong side of forty years old.

The win moved his Harlem team to a respectable 7-8 with a +7 Run Differential after three weeks of play.

In spite of the loss, Gotham remains two games clear atop the New York City standings with an 11-4 record.
