NCA #1 Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (88-42) vs SCA #4 Oberland T-51s (78-52)
[U]Game 3: Oberland 8, Nordhagen Beach 7
Oberland Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in SSS
The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys got 2 home runs from first baseman Mountainside Rockhand today but failed to take Game 3 of the Sole Survivor Series from the Oberland T-51s. In a nice performance, Rockhand hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice but Oberland took the game by a score of 8-7 and now lead the best-of-7 series, 2-1.
Had Racky Westheim not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Westheim hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the T-51s.
"We haven't forgotten how long this series might be, but 2-1 is a heck of a lot better than 1-2," Westheim said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Oberland Stadium in Oberland.
Game 4: Nordhagen Beach 7, Oberland 4
Nordhagen Beach Win Knots Series at 2
The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys topped the Oberland T-51s by the score of 6-4 and moved into a 2-2 tie in the Sole Survivor Series today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Nordhagen Beach starter Beachboy Nut, who threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball in the win.
The Party Boys had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 6-4, Nordhagen Beach, with no one out. Oberland, with the bases empty, was mounting a threat. Chase Doctorman dug in at the plate, but on a first pitch fastball, he lined out.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Oberland Stadium in Oberland.
Game 5: Nordhagen Beach 7, Oberland 4
Road Win Lifts Nordhagen Beach to 3-2 Lead in SSS
In a pivotal Game 5, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys were hoping for a big game from starter Deedee Martinson. They got one.
The right-hander shut out the Oberland T-51s, proving to be the difference-maker as he led his club to a 2-0 victory. The Party Boys took the 2-0 win over the Oberland T-51s to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Nordhagen Beach used a well-timed hit by Pipe Wallcrawler to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Party Boys ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Wallcrawler.
Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium in Winthrop.
