Game 6: Nordhagen Beach 8, Oberland 1
It's Over! Nordhagen Beach Defeats Oberland
Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.
It was the latter case in 2310, as the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys topped the Oberland T-51s 8-1 tonight at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium to win the Sole Survivor Series. It was the 4th title in franchise history and 2nd straight.
Boys starter Ugio Church held down the Oberland bats, pitching a complete game while allowing one earned run on four hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Orcin Cardinal's solo homer in the 7th marked the only run given up by Church.
Church also helped his own cause with the bat, leading the Party Boys by going 3 for 4 with a run and two RBI. Jonathan Angelou homered twice from the leadoff spot and Mountainside Rockhand hit a two-run bomb in the 6th.
"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Nordhagen Beach first baseman Mountainside Rockhand, who was named series MVP.
The Party Boys took the series 4-2. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League and a 88-42 record.
Nordhagen Beach manager Zach Toth grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Rockhand's words.
"Mountainside said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.
Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
