NCA Hitter - What a way to finish off the year -- being honored with the 2310 Nuka-Hitter Award in the North Charles Association. It had already been a very special season for Nordhagen Beach's Maxx Murtagh, but today's announcement really put the icing on his cake.

NCA Manager - Nordhagen Beach manager Zach Toth was selected as the 2310 North Charles Association Manager of the Year today.
He was somewhat of a dark horse next to some of the more flashy managers up for the award. Toth, who prefers that everyone call him "Cap" or "Skip," tries to shy away from the limelight in a media-driven world.
"It's really unfair to the guys that busted their humps all year long to put all the focus on me now. They showed up early, put in extra time in the cage, worked on their fielding, consulted with our coaching staff and really made 2310 a highlight in my career."
In fairness to this year's Manager of the Year, Toth certainly played an important part in the Party Boys success as he guided them to a first place finish in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League and a 88-42 record.
SCA Manager - Drac Jaskula, skipper of the Vault 81 Dwellers, was voted 2310 South Charles Association Manager of the Year and accepted the award earlier today.
He guided Vault 81 to second place in the South Charles Association Railroad League with a 83-47 record.
"I'm very happy about this," he said at the press conference. "But I'm more happy about what my boys did on the field. They battled their butts off for me all year. They should get the credit."
NCA Rookie - Nordhagen Beach first baseman Mountainside Rockhand set the tone for rookies across the North Charles Association in 2310 and today was tabbed for the league's Red Rocket Rookie Award.
He hit .322 in 118 games while collecting 148 hits, 32 home runs, 92 RBIs and scoring 83 runs.
He received 25 first place votes out of a possible 28. Foo Fieterz of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Heddic Volunnar of the Concord Radstags finished third.

SCA Rookie - For several weeks the rumor mill had it that the 2310 Red Rocket Rookie Award winner was a foregone conclusion and the trophy would go to FHE left fielder, Makin Jobear. It is no longer a rumor -- the South Charles Association made it official today.
Jobear won the award by hitting .354 and collecting 172 hits, 34 home runs, 94 RBIs and 56 walks. He scored 89 runs and posted a .418 on-base percentage.
He received 28 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Gladder Questseeker of the Quincy Gunners finished second in voting, while Hax Kim of the Vault 81 Dwellers finished third.

NCA Reliever - The Fallon's Reliever Award goes to the North Charles Association reliever who put forward the strongest season.
This season, that player was Wick Prater of the County Crossing Bloodbugs, who was above all his peers in 2310.
"I just feel like the ball was doing what I wanted it to this year and I was in command most nights out there," he said. "Some days you don't have your best stuff, but I didn't have too many of those days this year."
On the season, Prater pitched 59.1 innings, with 58 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.58. He also had 38 saves in 56 relief appearances.
He received 20 first place votes out of a possible 28. Machine Man Fortune of the Salem Witch Hats finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while David AntAgonist Kidd of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys finished third with 2 first place votes.
Player - Team - First Place - Total Points
Wick Prater - County Crossing Bloodbugs - 20 - 122
Machine Man Fortune - Salem Witch Hats - 6 - 53
David AntAgonist Kidd - Nordhagen Beach Party Boys - 2 - 53
Little Rat Swickard - Lexington Synths - 0 - 24
SCA Reliever - Mike Pond of the Egret Ninjas said he never set out to win the South Charles Association Fallon's Reliever Award this season, but he'll certainly take it.
"2310 was a pretty good year for me, that much is obvious," he said. "This is icing on the cake."
The 33-year-old out of Taunton, Massachusetts fashioned a 3.00 ERA this season over 60 innings of work. He made 50 relief appearances and had 35 saves, 41 strikeouts, 27 walks and a record of 1 win and 6 losses.
He received 12 first place votes out of a possible 28. Aaron Geneva of the Oberland T-51s finished second in voting with 14 first place votes, while Matt Hoernig of the Quincy Gunners finished third with 2 first place votes.

CBO Draft Preview
The following was an earlier mock draft. Please note that some of the 14 teams joining the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League also had players declared eligible for the draft. We first wrote this report in early October following a report put out by the OSA, so the projected draft order will have changed.
Mock Draft Predictions Top Ten Picks
1. Malden LF/SP Alchemist Hall, New Bedford Currently out with a knee injury which will eliminate his winter practice sessions. OSA scouts see the Grognaks pulling the trigger on Hall. Scouts see him as a plus-plus contact to power with the chance to hit .333 and hit 30 home runs when fully developed. He can play anywhere in the outfield. As a pitcher, Hall seemed to turn the corner in his junior season, dropping his ERA from 5.85 to 2.53. He throws three pitches with his cutter being his best pitch. Being a two-way player is the reason scouts see him as the top player in the draft.
2. Glowing Sea C Red Jay Jones, Beantown A power-hitting catcher who could also play either corner infield position, Jones is best known for his big bat. Scouts see him as a premier power hitter who can hit the ball to any field. He will need to work on seeing the best pitches, but if he reaches potential, he will be high value.
3. Southie 1B Tony Quarterly, Winchester University Predicted to be the highest college player taken since joining the CBO ranks, Quarterly only had one season so far in the BCAC (now CCBL) but dominated with a .352/23/61 line. Quarterly often swings at just about anything, something he will need to work on at the next level.
4. Cambridge CF Natick Inhousing, Lexington Injured for a good portion of his senior year, scouts do not think that time missed will cost Inhousing in the draft. When on, he can pound pitchers for hits and homers. He may not be a power hitter, but he can spray the ball through strong line drives, meaning he could be a future competitor for batting titles. Hes not the fastest guy, but Inhousing does a good job of locating the ball on defense and getting to it. He could move into left field in the pros, but he would not be a bad center fielder, either.
5. Atom RF Naga Arakaki, Concord Blessed with great bat-to-ball skills, Arakaki could compete for just about any offensive category when fully developed. He will need to cut down on his swings and misses, though, which could mean leading the league in strikeouts. He can play either corner outfield position, but he will never win a Corvega Award there.
6. FHE 2B Trog Alderod, Seekonk Alderod is an interesting pick this high up. He is great at hitting home runs, hitting 28 in his senior season with the Quahog. However, he strikes out a lot and is typically a home run or bust hitter. In the field, he is OK, if not a bit below average on defense. He played some SS with Seekonk but felt more comfortable playing at 2B.
7. Concord SS Gav Ingidree, Plymouth Ingidree is one of the most defensively talented players in the draft, able to play a number of positions but most likely to play SS or 2B in the pros. He will never light up the stat board with his bat, but he is capable of hitting anywhere with the occasional home run.
8. Fort Hagen CF Jay Gabby, Westfleet Another good defensive player, Gabby can handle the centerfield position with ease. He can play anywhere in the outfield, so that will help him get on the field sooner. His bat will need work, but he should be able to hold his own as a hitter. He would need to develop a lot better eye skills to ever be a leadoff hitter, but he could be a bottom of the lineup hitter who nabs a few bases and produces extra runs for his team. This pick in the draft could be the lowest we see Gabby going.
9. Diamond City CF Keepuh Knockin, Andrew Station Another decent outfielder, Knockin is not as speedy but can cover a decent amount of ground in the outfield. Scouts believe his natural position may be LF, so the team that drafts him might move him there. Knockin is great at earning a free pass with the bat in hand. His recognition of the strike zone is the best in the draft. If he develops, Knockin would be a valuable player on both offense and defense.
10. Lexington 2B Glove Payton, Harwich Hes called the Glove for a reason. He may be the second-best all-around defensive player of the draftees behind Ingidree. Payton can play pretty much any position but catcher. Payton is also a good all-around hitter. He will wait for his pitch and then drive it a mile. Pitchers have to be precise when facing him, a skill that should translate at upper levels.
First pitcher taken SP Chase Seashores, CIT Academy - #21, Sunshine Tidings Seashores has four pitches that he balanced well in the youth leagues. We would call him a top-ten pick since he has shown he can be an elite pitcher, registering a 1.27 ERA his senior year. Unfortunately, he has also battled injuries in the past two seasons, starting only 17 games over that stretch. If he can stay healthy, Seashores has the talent to develop into an ace in the CBO.
Why a 1st-rounder? 1B Tram Melstu, New Bedford - #25, Vault 81 Melstu became less productive in time. Scouts believe it was because Melstu was working on changing up his batting approach in preparation for the draft. He hit just .267/15/43 his senior season, but scouts still think he could be a top home run hitter if he develops fully for the CBO. Scouts think he could potentially hit 35+ home runs per season, so they see something we do not when looking just at the numbers.
Why not a 1st rounder? 3B Tommy Whitetiger, CIT Academy - #33, Atom Sure, he is projected toward the top of the 2nd round, but Whitetiger was a dangerous hitter that teams avoided. After being banged up in his junior season, teams tried to pitch around him as often as possible in his senior season. Scouts think he becomes too impatient at the plate, but they also see him as one of, if not the most talented power hitters in the draft. He has the strength to go deep in any field, and could be the premier corner IF in this draft. The mock has him as the 10th 3B/1B taken.
Pitcher worth watching SP Macho Lopez, Lynn Pier - #4-13 Nahant Lopez has shown steady improvement over his youth league career. OSA sees him as a 4th-rounder, but Lopez ended his 2310 campaign with a 10-8 record and a 3.05 ERA. He is still developing all three of his pitches, but he has shown the ability to place his pitches well at times. Should he develop, scouts think he could be a #2 or #3 pitcher in the rotation.
Five college players to watch (Note: we added this to the report today):
OSA and team scouts had workout sessions to look for players newly declared for the 2310 Rookie Draft once they were cleared by the CBO front office. Of the newcomers to the draft-eligible prospects, these are five that the OSA thought could go high in the draft.
1. CF Candy Kline, Nuka U - Scouts think he has the potential to be a Top 10 pick after watching his workout. He is fast and fluid, both covering a lot of ground in the outfield and wrecking bases on the path. He showed a lot of patience in recognizing pitches, showing that he could be an OBP dream. He hustled throughout the sessions, showing he is a high-motor, high-energy player.
2. RF Dump Truck Matthews, Glowing Sea College - Matthews was considered draft-eligible after his freshman season with the Glowing Ones. He finished the season hitting .322 with a home run, 24 RBI, 46 runs, and 18 stolen bases. He can play any outfield position but projects as a right fielder despite his blazing speed. He is considered a top-of-the-lineup project due to his even swing. While he may develop more strength in his body, his attributes will be average and OBP.
3. RF Buttons Bunterson, Revere College - A corner OF, Bunterson has shown hints of being a high contact, high power hitter. He is not going to lead the league in homers due to his build, so he may project as a LF who bats somewhere around 7th in the lineup. With that stated, he could be a very good 7th hitter with the propensity to hit for average. He will not steal bases but he is not the slowest player on the team, either.
4. 1B Tiger McQuaid, Assumption University - McQuaid showed in the independent circuit that he can be a dangerous hitter. Should he fully develop his skills, scouts believe he can hit above .300 and provide a good number of homers for a team. He may not be cleanup hitter material, but he will be a nightmare to pitch against.
5. SP Mean David Green, Mass Atlantic University - Green is in the mode of pitching balls that cannot be hit. He already has CBO-level control of his three pitches, including a knuckle curve that batters cannot square up. Should he pitch for a team with a good defense behind him and a catcher that can snag balls bouncing off the dirt, he could be a premier pitcher who leads the league in groundouts and double plays forced. Scouts see him as 1st-round potential whose ceiling is probably as a #2 starter in the rotation, someone to follow the ace throwing heat the day before.
