Game 36: Boston Americans vs. Cleveland Naps
The late-inning collapse is becoming all too common for the Americans, as they fell to the Cleveland Naps (16-20) by a score of 5 to 4. What was frustrating about this one was the fact that Leever quickly got the first 2 outs then the wheels came off. With the latest loss, Boston (18-18) dropped in the American League Standings to the 3rd place spot (tied with the St. Louis Browns).
Watty Lee (5-3) picked up the win by limiting the opposition to 4 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits, 3 walks, and 1 hit batsman; Game Score 59. Sam Leever (4-4) was tagged with the loss after serving up 5 earned runs on 11 hits and 2 walks in 8 2/3 innings of play; Game Score 43.
The Naps hitting-attack was powered by Lee DeMontreville (1 for 2, Double, Run, RBI), Joe Sugden (3 for 4, Run), and Doc Gessler (2 for 3, 2 RBIs, 2 Walks). Frank Chance (3 for 5, Triple), John Farrell (1 for 4, Double, 3 RBIs), and Bill Lange (1 for 1, Run, 2 Walks) played well in the loss.
Player of the Game: Watty Lee
