July 15-21, 2025
July 15-18: All-Star Break.
Transaction: Carson Williams was activated off the IL and Nick Loftin optioned back to Durham. Also we signed veteran 1B Paul Goldschmidt to a minor league contract and we'll see what he has left in the tank as we've gotten meager production from the DH spot this season.
July 19: vs Boston 5-4 W. WP-Fairbanks (4-6). Starter-Springs (6.1 6 2 2 0 10). HR-Paredes (24), J.Lowe (8). Rays led 3-2, trailed 4-3, tied in the 8th on a Yandy RBI single and walked it off in the 9th on J.Lowe's homer.
July 20: vs Boston 4-3 W. WP-Cleavinger (4-2). S-Fairbanks (22). Starter-Bradley (5.1 4 2 2 3 7). HR-J.Lowe (9), Westburg (8), Paredes (25). Solo homers in the 8th from Westburg (pinch-hit) and Paredes (for the 4th straight game and 5th in his last 6) turned around a 3-2 deficit as the Rays pulled it out late again.
July 21: vs Boston 5-3 W. WP-Baz (2-1). Starter-Rasmussen (6.1 5 3 3 2 2). HR-Yandy Diaz (10). They did it again - down 3-2 with two out and nobody on in the bottom of the 9th pinch-hitter Isaac walked, pinch-hitter Mead doubled him home to tie it, then Yandy stepped up and belted a 2-run walk-off homer. It was the second time in three nights that they won with a walk-off shot off Boston closer Liam Hendriks. The win extended their streak to 8 games.
Team record: 60-41. How much ground have they made up in the division with the 8-game win streak? How about one game, as Baltimore finally lost their last game as they matched the Rays' streak through the first 7. Still 8 1/2 back, but more importantly they're a whopping 6 games up in the first wild card and 9 ahead of fourth place. Next week: One more game with Boston then Philly visits for a pair before a day off followed by another crack at the Orioles with 3 in Baltimore.
Players of the (abbreviated) Week:
AL: Brandon Belt (HOU), 4-12, 4 HR, 9 RBI
NL: Bryce Harper (PHI), 7-14, 2 HR, 6 RBI
