Game 39: Boston Americans vs. New York Highlanders

A big win for the visiting Boston Americans (20-19) as they thumped the New York Highlanders (18-21) by a score of 11 to 3. The victory moves the Americans into 3rd place in the American League standings.

Picking up the win was Jesse "Powder" Tannehill (4-5), as he limited the Highlanders to 3 earned runs on 10 hits, 2 walks, and 1 wild pitch in his 140-pitch complete game effort; Game Score 55. After a rough start to the season, Tannehill has posted victories in 3 of his last 4 outings. Barney Wolfe (2-6) was tagged with the loss after allowing 9 runs (4 earned) on 14 hits, 5 walks, a wild pitch, and a hit batsman in 7 1/3 innings of play; Game Score 23. Zeke Wilson covered the final 1 2/3 innings in which he served up 2 earned runs on 2 hits and 2 walks.

Both teams pounded out the hits today, with Fred Clarke (3 for 6, Double, Run, RBI), John Farrell (2 for 5, 3 RBIs, Walk), and Dave Brain (2 for 6, 3 Runs, RBI, Stolen Base) leading the way for the Americans, while Fred Odwell (3 for 4, Double, Triple, Run), Barry McCormick (2 for 4, Run, RBI), and Jimmy Collins (2 for 5, RBI) paced the way for New York.
