The June Super Post

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Plain Morris made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the North Charles Association this past month.

The The Slog Ghouls third baseman shined through the month of May and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 24-year-old hit .366 with 8 home runs, 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Currently Morris is batting .306 with 52 hits and 10 home runs. He has knocked in 31 runs and scored 34 times.

SCA Hitter - Stu Gains battered South Charles Association pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Gains told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Gains hit .365 with 9 home runs, 33 RBIs and scored 23 runs.

So far this season, Gains has hit .333 with 10 home runs, 41 RBIs and scored 35 times.

NCA Pitcher - It was a monstrous May for the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award winner, Digger Vadim of the Starlight Killers. He put up some mighty scary numbers.

Vadim recorded 6 wins and no losses in 7 starts. Throwing a total of 49.1 innings, he yielded 37 hits, mowed down 44 on strikes, gave up 13 walks and put up a solid ERA of 1.82 in a stellar month on the mound.

In the current season in 11 starts, Digger Vadim has a record of 8-1 with 62 strikeouts in 72 innings and a 2.75 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - When Heaven Fontenot takes the hill, he usually takes command of the game -- at least that's the way it was in May. The outcome was usually a Goodneighbor victory. His fine 4-1 performance earned him the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month trophy.

The talented Hancocks hurler made 7 starts, worked 53.2 innings, permitted 41 base hits, and struck out 52 while putting up a 2.18 ERA.

On the year, Fontenot has compiled a 7-3 mark with a 2.44 ERA.

NCA Rookie - Jim Geiger's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Cambridge right fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .404 with 7 doubles, no triples and 5 home runs. Geiger also scored 21 times and drove in 21 runs.

This year, Geiger is hitting at a .361 pace with 6 home runs and 34 RBIs. He has played in 46 games and scored 31 times.

SCA Rookie - Glowing Sea's Naga Arakaki collected 33 hits to snare the South Charles Association Rookie of the Month for May.

He batted .330 with 7 home runs, 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

The 18-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

So far on the season, Arakaki is hitting .329 with 12 home runs, 24 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has 57 hits and played in 46 games.

MML Analysis

The MML is chugging along with several former CBO players showing they still have what it takes to contribute to their CBO teams. There have also been some absolute stars, like the Stars League's RF Weston DeGurlz of Castle (Quincy) who is the Triple Crown leader at .460/24/67.

Division leaders are the Watertown Armorers, Finch Farm Shamrocks, Worcester Cannons, and Castle Strength. The Shamrocks have the largest lead of 11 games over the Medford Medics.

Speaking of the Medics, rumor has it that the Atom Cats are seeking a groovier name for their BMU affiliate. Naming suggestions have started to pour in for something both relevant to Medford and meets the Cats' jive.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - Kevin Pullup is likely in no rush to flip the calendar over.

The Burlington right fielder had a huge month in May and has been named the Legends League Batter of the Month.

On the month, he posted a .440 batting average, with 12 home runs, 31 RBIs, 24 runs scored and a .479 on-base percentage.

Thus far this year, Pullup is batting .411 with 22 home runs, 54 RBIs and 51 runs scored.

SL Hitter - It's official. BNN writers have voted Weston DeGurlz of the Castle Strength the Stars League Batter of the Month award for May.

During the month he recorded a .523 average with 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

So far this year, DeGurlz is batting .460 with 24 home runs, 67 RBIs and 43 runs scored.

LL Pitcher - Hoodoo Loulou was on cloud nine the entire month of May, capping it off with the Legends League Pitcher of the Month honors.

The Watertown starter was spectacular in 7 starting assignments with 6 wins and no losses, 54.2 innings pitched, 49 strikeouts and a fine 2.63 ERA.

To date this year, Loulou shows a 9-3 record, 13 starts, 95.1 innings, 80 strikeouts and a 3.68 ERA.

SL Pitcher - The Stars League announced the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award for May.

It went to Waxer Lucatero of Providence for his outstanding 6-0 record and 3.42 ERA.

Lucatero also chalked up 7 starts, 55.1 innings and 48 strikeouts.

This season, Lucatero has compiled a 9-1 mark with a 3.76 ERA.

BMU Analysis

Like the MML, the BMU has a player leading in the Triple Crown race this season: 2B Trog Alderod of Mass Pike (Slog) with a .380/31/44 line. He has hit a lot of sole home runs, but still leads the Massachusetts Association in RBI. 3B Flex Mussels of Littleton (Con) is also in the Triple Crown race in the Commonwealth Association, though he is tied for the home run lead. He has hit .385/22/50. Unfortunately for his pursuits, Mussels has been called up to the MML's Arlington Caps.

League leaders are the Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters, a tie between the Sanctuary Hills Zetans and Winchester Bashers, a tie between the West Roxbury Mole Rats and Neponset Park Criticals, and the Hyde Park Stingwings.

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - At only 23 years of age, Flex Mussels could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Littleton Ragers, as May was one to remember for the third baseman and he has captured the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .383 with 14 home runs, 35 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

This season, Mussels has banged out 60 hits in 157 at-bats for a .382 average with 22 home runs. He is getting on base at a .444 pace and his totals also include 50 RBIs and 44 runs scored.

MA Hitter - Mass Pike Radroaches fans believe they've got a talented young star in Trog Alderod.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .418 with 25 home runs, 38 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

The end result was the second baseman being named the Massachusetts Association Batter of the Month.

In 42 games this year, Alderod has posted a .380 average and put up these numbers: 31 home runs, 44 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

MA Pitcher - May was a very good month for Chris Brahmin of the Winchester Bashers. He held opposing hitters for a .192 average and took home the Commonwealth Association Pitcher of the Month award.

In 8 starts he claimed a 8-0 record as he put up a 3.54 ERA and struck out 59 in 56 innings.

Brahmin has fashioned a 10-0 mark for the season, 2.91 ERA and thrown 86.2 innings in 12 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .199 against him.

MA Pitcher - The Massachusetts Association named the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award.
It went to Ramrod Padlock of Hyde Park Stingwings, who impressed the voters with a glittering 6-1 record in May.

The Hyde Park star hurler made 7 starts, allowed 40 hits in 40.2 innings, struck out 31 and had a 2.43 ERA.

So far this year, Padlock has a 9-2 record with a 2.37 ERA.

GBRL Analysis

The SL Southwest Division has a crazy race for 1st place right now. The Greater Mass Vans (FHE) and Roadside Pines Cosmos (FtH) are each 39-6 on the season. The Vans are on a 12-game winning streak, while the Cosmos are on an 11-game winning streak.

Looking at the Vans, they are 1st in every offensive categories but stolen bases where they are 2nd. Five players have hit double-digit home runs, led by their top three of LF Ori Gun (.294/20/41), CF Doorbell Arg (.315/19/50), and 1B Slip Knotty (.307/19/35).

The Cosmos are the same in pitching categories where they are 1st in everything but 7th in strikeouts. The top two pitchers have been there all season: SP Nick Soulless (10-1, 1.50) and Tarzan Rogers (9-1, 2.81). CL Volodya Odabashian (13 SV, 0.61) has been dominant.

For the rest of the GBRL, division leaders are the Croup Manor Inspectors, a tie between the Union Hope Lifegivers and Rocky Narrows Blitz, and the Poseidon Energy Mongrels.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - When Buttons Bunterson stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the North League Batter of the Month award.

The young Croup Manor right fielder posted a .365 batting average with 15 home runs, 30 RBIs and scored 39 runs. Bunterson also worked pitchers for 21 walks to post a .500 on-base percentage.

Thus far this year, Bunterson has hit .352 with 19 home runs and 43 RBIs.

SL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 19 Jozie Newroad has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Greater Mass Vans star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the South League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .429 average with 13 home runs, 30 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

This season, Newroad has hit at a .354 clip with 33 RBIs, 15 home runs and 34 runs scored. He has played in 31 games.

NL Pitcher - The #1 pitcher this past month in the North League was Groot Spooner of the Kingsport Moon Monkeys. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing May with a superb 7-0 record and a 2.28 ERA.

The Moon Monkeys star made 7 starts and surrendered 36 hits in 43.1 innings. He struck out 47 and walked 33.

Spooner has made 11 starts so far this year and put up a 8-2 won-lost record with a 3.84 ERA. In 63.1 innings he has allowed 55 hits, walked 53 and struck out 61.

SL Pitcher - Last month was a very successful month for Andrew Groom of Poseidon Energy. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the South League.

Groom shut down league hitters in fine fashion, rounding out May with an impressive 6-1 mark and 2.26 ERA in 8 starts with 71 strikeouts in 59.2 innings.

His record this year is 7-4 in 12 starts and Groom has a 2.72 ERA.

CCBL Analysis

The CCBL is in its final month of the season, and all but one of the divisions is in a fierce battle. That one division without a fierce battle is the Mass Con Western Division where the Assumption University Greyhounds have a 10-game lead over the Holy Cross Crusaders and a Magic # of just 6.

Other division leaders are the Winthrop College Guardians, Mass Bay University Beacons, and a tie between the Stonehill College Skyhawks and Plymouth University Pioneers.

Current leaders in the wildcard race are the Northeastern University Huskies, Harvard University Crimson, Holy Cross, and Commonwealth University Terriers.

CCBL All-Star Game

The Team 1 All-Stars have bragging rights for the year after beating the Team 2 All-Stars by a score of 8-2 at Battalion Park.

Team 1 star Myles Deese played a key role in the win, going 1 for 2 to lead his team.

In his career, Deese has played in 203 games with a .359 batting average. Among his 296 hits are 35 doubles, 3 triples, and 47 home runs. He has also scored 162 runs, walked 63 times, tallied 7 stolen bases, and driven in 122 runs.

It's All-Star Game time -- time for the superstars to shine! Every year Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League takes a break in the schedule to play the annual All-Star Game. It's a battle of the superstars -- the Team 1 All-Stars versus the Team 2 All-Stars. CCBL Players of the Month

CCBL Hitter - Sheen Doyle put together a good May to earn the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Glowing Sea College officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Glowing Ones second baseman posted a .455 batting average with 10 home runs, 31 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

This season, Doyle is batting .435 with 15 home runs.

CCBL Pitcher - Aqua Purified of the Assumption Greyhounds outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 7-0 won-lost mark and 1.02 ERA in 7 starts to get the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Pitcher of the Month honors.

Purified had a very impressive May, finishing with 41 strikeouts in 53 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .222 average.

In 14 starts this year, Purified has recorded a 11-2 record and a 2.24 ERA.

CYL Analysis

The CYL regular season has come to a conclusion. The South Charles Bank Moonies and Swansea Nuka Sox earned the top records in their regions.

Other division winners were the Marblehead Mess, Beantown Sprouts, Acton Ups, Dennis Menaces, Brown Bubblers, and Spectacle Island Specters.

One play-in game had to happen due to tiebreakers. In that game, the Truro Hatchlings defeated the Bridgewater Baristas, 11-1, to earn the final playoff spot in the South Region.

CYL Players of the Month

NR Hitter - Nope Ankor has a lot going for him. The Beerthirty first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the North Region has just picked him as its top hitter for May.
