Fontenot Makes History, Throws Hancocks' Second No-Hitter
There have been few years where there were more than one no-hitters in a season. There were three in 2299, two in 2305, and two more in 2306. Never had teammates thrown a no-hitter in the same season. Now that has happened with Goodneighbor pitching the only no-hitters on the season.
Heaven Fontenot relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Southie hitless in a win, 5-0, at Third Rail Stadium.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Brews off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 22-year-old starter rung up 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in whipping the Brews.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Southie skipper Ray Pratt said.
This year, Fontenot has compiled a 9-3 mark with a 2.05 ERA.
BMU All-Star Game
The best of the best took to the field at Reading Railroad Park tonight, giving BMU fans a show in the annual all-star game.
The Massachusetts Association earned bragging rights with a 4-2 win over the Commonwealth Association.
Trog Alderod was named the MVP for his efforts, as he batted 1-for-3 in the contest.
"I'm just glad we won, that's the main thing," he said. "The personal accomplishment isn't something I strive for in an all-star game."
It's time once again for the Boston Minor Union All-Star game!
The game features the top players from the Commonwealth Association and the Massachusetts Association slugging it out in a baseball extravaganza.

GBRL All-Star Game
There's a whole lot of pride on the line when the best baseball players throughout Greater Boston Rookie League gather for the all-star game.
It was no different this year, as the North League bested the South League by a score of 16-8, in a spirited contest played at Mad Dogs Grove.
"It might be a little lower intensity than the regular season or playoffs, but everyone in that clubhouse still wants to win this game," said True Tee Warrior of the North League, who was named the game MVP.
Nothing is for certain about the 2311 Greater Boston Rookie League All-Star Game. It might be dominated by top-notch pitching performances. Or it could turn into a home run derby. Who knows? Pitch by pitch, inning by inning, the game could feature a little of both -- six strikeouts in a row by a nasty southpaw -- or a 3-homer day for some superstar slugger -- plus great catches, thrills, chills and spills -- all the great and the unexpected things that can happen in a baseball game.
