2085 TYCOBBIAN UNION MIDSEASON RECAP
HELLCATS AGAIN ON FIRE IN TU NORTH, SEEK 4TH FLAG IN A ROW
In the Tycobbian North the highly-touted Hartsdale Hellcats have dominated for the last three seasons. They started off in a somber slumber in April, but they have since righted the ship, set sail for the number one spot and nailed it at the midseason mark. The Hellcats have a 4-game edge over runner-up Fairfax, 6 games better than Blue Lake and 8 games up on Mahaska. It is beginning to look like Hartsdale is going to make shambles of the TU North again. It's not likely anyone can catch them in the second half. Hartsdale is due. They have made the postseason 19 times with 2 Pro Cup Trophies. The Hellcats were IPA champion long ago in '46 and '63. This is their time and this could be their year.
TRIED AND TESTED TURON TO TRIUMPH IN TU SOUTH
Turon is a traditional power in the Tycobbian South, rarely not in the running for the division crown. It's been 18 years since they have had a losing season. 9 times in that span the Typhoons have nabbed the pennant, also took 2 Pro Cups in '72 and '78. They have made the postseason 30 times, winning 6 Pro Cups. This year Turon is the preseason favorite in the TU South, but they do have competition. It will not be easy to beat second place Arroyo Grande. The Suns are just one game behind. San Alejo is right on their heels, just one and a half games back. Fourth place belongs to Ginza. The Ninjas are 5 games back. It's anybody's pennant to win. Turon usually wins out in the end.
HIGH MESA RIDING HIGH IN TU EAST
High Mesa has not had many high points in its IPA history. Rarely in the past two decades have they posted a winning record. Only 5 times in the team's history have the Buckaroos made the playoffs, but they do possess one Pro Cup, captured in the early days of the IPA in 2002 when they were the Cowboys. The Bucks have not been to the postseason since 2062. High Mesa may be the longsuffering team everybody will be pulling for this season to win the Pro Cup. The Buckaroos were forecast to be the division winner this year. So far, So good. Hillsboro is 7 games behind, South Fork is 8 games behind and last year's champ Ozarka is 12 games out. Things are looking good for High Mesa. They might just have it all this season, good hitting, scoring, home-run power and pitching. A Pro Cup in 2085 is not out of the question. Pro Cup powers Belair Beach, Rolling Hills and Hartsdale beware. There's a new kid in town.
RACERS IN A RACE IN THE TU WEST
What more can you say about the Rolling Hills Racers? 10 Pro Cups in its fabled history. 3 of them in the last 10 years. 5 TU West titles in the last 10 years. And yes, they were chosen to win the pennant for the third consecutive year. So far, Rolling Hills is doing it, but not by much of a margin. Just about the entire TU West still has postseason hopes, at least in theory. The pesty Chicopee Braves are hanging close, just one game out of the top spot. Archrival Bayview is running third, 5 and a half-game behind. La Claire is fourth, 6 GB. Bay St. Clair is fifth, trailing by 6 and a half games. Even sixth place Arlon and seventh place Denton City still have a shot at the playoffs. It will probably comes down to the Racers and the Vikings, the way it has been the last two seasons.
