May 5: vs Chicago White Sox 1-4 L. LP-McClanahan (2-4, 5.2 5 2 2 2 7). The bats were held to a mere 4 hits with Yandy's RBI triple their only offense of note, wasting a fine outing from Mac.

May 6: vs Chicago White Sox 1-5 L. LP-Pepiot (3-3, 6.1 7 3 3 0 5). Same story, different day.

May 7: vs Chicago White Sox 1-3 L. LP-Robertson (0-1). Starter-Springs (6 3 0 0 1 2). The team's sudden inability to score has them back at .500 after seemingly putting it in the rearview mirror. They wasted Springs' best start of the year and were 0-0 going into the 8th before Robertson, who had been lights-out, gave up 2 runs.

May 8: Off-Day.

May 9: at Philadelphia 4-6 L
. LP-Bautista (3-1). Starter-Bradley (6 6 3 3 0 4). HR-Rutschman (10). Things were looking good for a while as they were up 4-1 in the middle innings before the walls closed on them. Bradley let Philly back within 4-3, Hader gave up the tying run in the 7th and Bautista faltered, giving up a 2-run walk-off homer to a guy rated 35 for power, Josh Rojas, as they dropped their fourth straight and fell below .500.

May 10: at Philadelphia 5-9 L. LP-Headrick (1-2, 1.1 7 6 6 1 2). HR-Isaac (6). And th-th-th-that's all folks for Headrick as the 5th starter as he was handed a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st and gave it right back in the bottom of the frame plus two more in the 6th. He and his 8.90 ERA are Durham-bound and when we eventually need a 5th starter (next week has two off-days), we'll give Joe Rock a shot. Paredes was 3-4 with an RBI but the offense dried up after the 1st until Isaac hit a consolation homer in the 9th with the game already decided.

Transaction
: Headrick is down and Nic Enright is up to give us an extra arm in the pen until we need the 5th starter.

May 11: at Philadelphia 7-1 W. WP-McClanahan (3-4, 7 2 1 1 2 6). HR-Yandy Diaz (3), T.Hernandez (7), DeLuca (2), Paredes (6), Isaac (7). Mac was brilliant and was amply supported with 5 homers as the Rays kept from going winless for the week.

Team record: 17-18. They're now 4 1/2 back of Baltimore and out of the wild card spots as the momentum they had last week completely disappeared and then some. Next week: 2 games in Atlanta against the top team in MLB with off-days before and after before returning home for 3 against Kansas City.

Players of the Week:

AL: Colson Montgomery (CHI), 9-22, 6 HR, 8 RBI (he always seems to win this when he plays against the Rays)
NL: Yohandy Morales (WAS), 13-23, 3 HR, 7 RBI
