England - First Division

After a rough two years, Everton are back in contention after a fantastic start! They're the 2nd best offense by OPS, with 1B Harvey Dean (.370/.433/.617), 1B Colm Stanford (.348/.429/.576), and Douglas Rousset (.383/.451/.543) leaders in this category. Their pitching hasn't been bad, but there's better rotations out there. Everton Taylor (5-0, 2.32 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) is the club leader on the mound. The Toffees are being chased pretty closely by several teams, but they seem to be able to win on the road (7-1-1) and in close games (2-0), so I expect they'll be towards the top of the table once again this year.

The best offense is just a half game back from the top, though we'll see how losing star SS Anthony Dean for the season will affect the performance of Notts County. Players like 2B Shane Pollard (.400/.515/.573), 1B Carl Pemberton (.393/.470/.500) and RF Richard Dundon (.381/.425/.536) are filling the void nicely. The Magpies are also struggling to find traction on the mound, with Darren Hutton (8-1, 2.73 ERA, 1.34 WHIP) powering what is now the 6th best rotation.

Speaking of rotations, Blackburn have the best performing starters in the league. Peter Neilson (5-2, 1.62 ERA, 1.18 WHIP), Brad Burrows (4-2, 2.89 ERA, 1.36 WHIP) and Jacob Owen (9 IP, 1 ER) have provided performances that have allowed Blackburn's offense to play with less pressure, leading to a 4th best run scoring record despite their underlying stats being just a bit worse. The Rovers have turned Leamington Road into a fortress, only losing one game at home, and if they manage to perform a bit better on the road, they might turn into title favorites.

England - Second Division

Grimsby had come 4th two seasons in a row, and it looks like it's finally their time for an opportunity in the First Division. Darwen were relegated in 1891, but this year they've managed to convince several former Accrington players to guide them back. Sheffield Wednesday were relegated and are struggling to find their footing in the Second Divison, but it is Sheffield United showing up for the South Yorkshire city as they seek promotion.

Scotland - Division One

It's as tight as ever in the Scottish league, with three teams leading the way. St. Mirren's rotation is the 3rd best in the league, compensating for a pretty average offensive output. Their lineup is still pretty talented and could take them all the way. On the flipside, reigning champions 3rd LRV have scored more runs than anyone despite a lack of real standouts, while a 4th best rotation is being helped by some good defending. Rangers hold the third place, as their rotation is the best in the league. Scotland national team star Benjamin Boyd leads their rotation, fighting for a Triple Crown with a 4-2 record, 2.59 ERA and 16 K. At the end of the table, Celtic had a 12 game winless streak to start the season. They now face a serious threat of relegation.

With 2 series left, BA&R Railways are just one win away from clinching the title! (At this point, the league is still mostly British players as immigrants working on the railways and docks brought the game over from Europe.)
