Kansas City Results

A 17-10 month showed more Royals success as six series victories were secured.

It was tougher going in the AL Central as they went to Detroit and were swept 0-3 before splitting a 4-game series in Cleveland. A trip to Minnesota and a 2-1 series victory steadied things but they dropped the first game of a three game series in Chicago to finish the month.

In American League play, it was two out of two with home series wins against the Orioles (2-1) and the Mariners (3-0). Interleague play brought more success – two wins against the Brewers to start the month and complete a three-game sweep, before spltting home games against the Cardinals. A 2-1 victory in Chicago against the Cubs came before the Phillies visited Kansas City and were swept 3-0.

Steve Carter (9 wRC+) has really struggled over the season and may be at risk of a demotion as the season enters its final regular season month as his mediocre glove requires a strong bat for him to be of value. Bobby Witt Jr. (182 wRC+) could be rounding into form at the right time, a .629 SLG% and a 10% walk rate making him a risk in every at-bat.

Aiden May (259 ERA+) continues to dominant in every outing, another 1.2 WAR this month taking him to 5.0 for the season with a month to go. Cade Townsend (270 ERA+) had a 1.67 ERA over his 5 starts, earning the Pitcher of the Month Award, with pitched almost 100 pitches a game, on course for 190 innings for the season.

The bullpen was generally strong and with William Schmidt (145 ERA+) taking 17 and Wen-Hui Pan (77 ERA+) taking 12.1 innings of work during the month, generally rested as September begins.

Colin Stewart also recorded his 500th win in MLB on the 1st day of the month.

The Royals relief depth is being put to the test with Jake Early and T.J. Brock both missing the rest of the regular season with strained hamstrings.
