Sole Survivor Series: Nordhagen Beach Party Boys vs Roxbury Rad Sox
Game 1: Roxbury 8, Nordhagen Beach 4
Mattingley, Roxbury Open SSS Strong with 8-4 Win
The Roxbury Rad Sox started the Sole Survivor Series in style, downing the visiting Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury by a score of 8-4 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Rad Sox third baseman Donn Mattingley went 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Brightsun Ramos came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Nordhagen Beach pitcher Ted Iam, he hit a full count cutter for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Roxbury on top, 5-4.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Bryan Pingree said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.
Game 2: Nordhagen Beach 4, Roxbury 3
Party Boys Clip Rad Sox, 4-3, in SSS Contest
Behind a bravura effort from starter Deedee Martinson, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys topped the Roxbury Rad Sox by the score of 4-3 and got their first win in the 2311 Sole Survivor Series. Martinson threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the Party Boys. The win moves Nordhagen Beach into a 1-1 tie with Roxbury.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Jumper Hayes? The nine-time Corvega Top Defender Award winner Hayes stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 3-1. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
Rad Sox manager Bryan Pingree did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the Sole Survivor Series."
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium in Winthrop.
