Game 68: Philadelphia Athletics vs. Boston Americans
The win streak has now reached ten (10) consecutive games! Taking the lead in the 5th inning and a nice cushion of runs in the 6th inning provided the Boston Americans (41-27) with the support it needed to take the game by a 9 to 3 score over the visiting Philadelphia Athletics (36-32).
Jesse Tannehill (9-7) picked up the victory by limiting Philadelphia to 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk in the 109-pitch complete game; Game Score 63. Mike Lynch (9-7) was denied reaching double-digit wins on the season, as he was tagged for 8 runs (4 earned) on 11 hits, 5 walks, and 1 hit batsman in 6 innings of play; Game Score 24. Lave Winham pitched a scoreless inning before turning the ball over to Connie McGeehan who allowed 1 earned run in his 1 inning of play.
The Americans hitting-attack was powered by Bill Lange (2 for 4, Double, Triple, 2 Runs, Sacrifice Bunt), Solly Hofman (3 for 5, 2 Runs, Stolen Base), and Fred Clarke (2 for 4, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs, Walk, Stolen Base). John Titus (2 for 4, Triple, 2 Runs) and George Davis (2 for 3, Run, RBI, Sacrifice Fly) played well in the loss.
