FC’S WINTER BELTS OUT 5 HITS, DRIVES IN 7
FIRST BASEMAN PUT IN THE PERFORMANCE OF HIS CAREER IN DRUBBING OF BINGHAMTON
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (July 19, 1867) – Flour City needed a win in Binghamton on Friday to make it back to the .500 mark (29-29), and they did just that with a double-digit victory in the Vestal Avenue Grounds:
It took a little while for the Flour City attack to start rolling, but once the 5th inning began their bats sparked to life and what was a close 3-1 contest turned into a rout.
Batsmen #2-7 in the Flour City all had multiple hits, with the group being led by 1B Burkhard Winter:• T1: 1-Run Single b/w SS & 3B off R. O’Kirwan (CS)
• T4: Leadoff Single past SS off R. O’Kirwan (Run)
• T5: 1-Run Single b/w SS & 3B off R. O’Kirwan
• T6: 3-run Double past 3B off R. O’Kirwan (Run)
• T8: 2-run Double to RF off R. Oliver (Run)
• T9: Ground Out to 3B off E. Kirkman
• TOTAL: 5/6, 2 2B, 3 R, 7 RBI, 106 GMSC The performance raised Winter’s average over the .340 mark to .342, and his seven runs batted in put him over a half-century with 51. With two and a half weeks to go, Winter is on pace to finish the season with his best batting numbers since his debut year in the NBBO with Metropolitan in 1863.
The win leaves Flour City in 3rd place in the Upstate Championship, seven games behind Syracuse with a dozen left to play. The loss puts Binghamton in a tie for 5th with Eagle, nine games behind the leaders.
