Game 1: A tight one in the Twin Cities as the Rays got a great outing from Brad Villarreal and edged Minnesota 2-0. Villarreal (13-8) pitched his best game in a while at 7 3 0 0 1 3 and Mario Berumen picked up a four-out save, his 36th. The offense came courtesy of a David Morales RBI double in the 4th and an insurance solo shot from Dantel Chinchilla (#6) in the 9th.

It was all the more shocking considering Tampa Bay started ace Dave Rose (15-8), but he turned in his worst outing in several years wearing Rays colors, getting pasted to the tune of 3 9 10 10 1 3 with a couple of homers allowed.

Team record: 79-52. The Yankees also won 2 of 3 to stay 1 1/2 back of us. Next up: Back home for 3 against Toronto.
