August 27-29, 2055: at Minnesota (3)

Game 1: A tight one in the Twin Cities as the Rays got a great outing from Brad Villarreal and edged Minnesota 2-0. Villarreal (13-8) pitched his best game in a while at 7 3 0 0 1 3 and Mario Berumen picked up a four-out save, his 36th. The offense came courtesy of a David Morales RBI double in the 4th and an insurance solo shot from Dantel Chinchilla (#6) in the 9th.

August 28: Activated SS Alex Brown from his rehab assignment, optioned IF Jayden Woodward to Durham.

Game 2: An easier day for Tampa Bay as they scored 6 in the 2nd to go up 7-0 and cruised to an 8-4 win over the Twins. Jesus Avalos hit a solo shot (#25) in the first, Kang-cheol Lee (#12) followed with another in the 2nd and then Jose Lozada capped off the inning with a grand slam (#12). Erik Witten (3-1) was solid at 5.2 6 2 2 3 5 for the win.

Game 3: The Twins returned the favor of yesterday's blowout and then some, annihilating the Rays 16-0 in the finale. It was all the more shocking considering Tampa Bay started ace Dave Rose (15-8), but he turned in his worst outing in several years wearing Rays colors, getting pasted to the tune of 3 9 10 10 1 3 with a couple of homers allowed.

Team record: 79-52. The Yankees also won 2 of 3 to stay 1 1/2 back of us. Next up: Back home for 3 against Toronto.
