Yeah I can imagine being a Red Sox fan was just as hard to see their team come so close but to winning a World Series only to have it snatched away or witness their team wither away not even getting a shot at all.
I'll never forget 2004, though. I recall watching a league championship game at New York, can't recall what game, but Pedro Martinez was pitching. I never seen such a ruthless crowd. They were all chanting in a sing-song voice
"Who's your daddy?" in between pitches late in the game & even the organist was egging them on using a melody to match the chants intending to break Pedro's concentration. I found it so amusing, I couldn't help but laugh.
But their 0-3 deficit was the greatest comeback in the history of the MLB & then swept (if I recall correctly) the Cardinals in the World Series. I was happy for them, despite Mariner brass making the bone-headed decision of letting Jason Veritek & Derek Lowe be traded for Heathcliff Slocomb. Then again, had they stayed with the Mariners they could very well had not become superstars.
Thanks for the tip on the '88/'89 rosters
