Nuka Tournament Down to Four Teams

The Nuka Tournament is now down to its four finalists with the Semifinal Series beginning tomorrow at the sites of the two highest-ranking teams. The results and coming schedule are below.

Roxbury Regional

FHE vs County Crossing: CC 6-0. CC 8-7, CC 7-2

County Crossing vs Fort Hagen: CC 3-2, FtH 26-5, CC 7-1, FtH 7-5

County Crossing battled as the #4 seed all the way to the end, finally succumbing to the Silver Shroud in the final game of the regional. In the championship series, the team from the Winner's Bracket starts with a 1-0 advantage. That means Fort Hagen won the series, 3-2.

The most impressive offensive performance of the tournament came in the second game when the Shroud busted out for 26 runs. Seven starters put on impressive offensive performances in a game that also included a three-run pinch-hit home run by Gunner Eyesocket. Impressive performances from the top of the lineup to the bottom include Hid Matsumoto (4/4, 2B, 3 R, RBI), Brennan Colt-45 (2/5, 2B, R, 3 RBI), Sleve McDichael (2/3, BB, 3 R, 2 RBI), KiJana Mallee (3/4, BB, 2 R, 2 RBI), Foo Fieterz (3/4, 2B, BB, 3 R, RBI), Admiral Kelm (2/5/ 2 HR, 2 R, 6 RBI), and Burtie Cuttooth (3/4, 2B, HR, 3 R, 4 RBI).

Starlight Regional

Easy Town vs Sunshine Tidings: ST 5-3, ST 4-3, ST 11-7

Sunshine Tidings vs Starlight: Star 8-4. Star 5-1, Star 5-4, Star 3-2

Both of the final series were no-contests as Sunshine Tidings easily put away the impressive showing of 7th-seeded Easy Town. Then the host Killers won all four games over the Chemists to earn their way into the semifinals and the right to host fellow Institute League team, the Shroud.

Nordhagen Bach Regional

Vault 81 vs Salem: Sal 2-1, V81 11-3, Sal 1-0

Salem vs Nordhagen Beach: NB 6-5, NB 3-0, NB 5-4, NB 5-2

The Party Boys are not finished winning as they won 9 of the 10 games they played in their own regional. The Witch Hats kept all three finals games close, never losing by more than three, but they were just not enough to overpower their league mates in the Boys.

University Point Regional

Oberland vs Bunker Hill: Obe 4-1, BH 6-2, Obe 6-0

Oberland vs Nahant: Obe 8-7, Obe 4-1, Nah 5-3, Nah 10-1

The T-51s were the only team from the South Charles Association to make it to a regionals final in what turned out ot be the NCA tournament. Still, Oberland was one win away from clinching the final series after taking the first two games over Nahant for a 2-1 series lead. However, the Celtics found their luck and won the last two games.

Nahant will now travel to face off with Brotherhood League rivals, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. Last season, Nahant won the Brotherhood League, but the Boys still advanced further in the playoffs, losing to Roxbury in the Sole Survivor Series.

CYL Preview

The predictions are in for the 2312 season, and our trusty PAM assaultron has predicted a final of the Swansea Nuka Sox defeating the Circle Jerks in the Commonwealth Youth Series. Last season, the league tried a double-elimination tournament but found the playoffs to be saturated with too many moving parts. In the end, the Brown Bubblers took the series over the Harwich Fishheads, two games to none.

This season, the tournament will go back to a single-elimination model with the top teams from each region emerging to play a three-game, winner-take-all series.

Predicted division winners in the last season of just eight divisions (teams go to 10 divisions in 2313) are:

Franklin: Acton Ups
Emerson: Beantown Sprouts
Fuller: Circlejerks
Revere: Saugus Launchers
Adams: Woodlawn Gnomes
Alcott: West Quincy Atomatoys
Morse: Swansea Nuka Sox
Attucks: Wellfleet Tarberries

In the North Region, top hitter prospects are 3B Merlin Hodges of Diamond City, SS Cajun Darri of Saugus, 1B Jam Armchase of Sudbury, and 1B Van Wrinkle of North Charles Bank. The South's top hitters are predicted to be Ice Cream Horton of Wellfleet, Pacman McDade of South Beach, Pocket Yulen of Wellfleet, and Beggs Washington of Eastham.

Top pitchers in the North Region are Paul Bird of Circle, Mike Searocker of Lowell, Cuff Tailorman of Danvers, and Sun Hancock of North Charles Bank. In the South Region, the top pitchers are expected to be Chad OJ of Brown, Rick Green of Sandwich, Shadow Pile of Swansea, and Big Dog Monaghan of Jamaica Plain.
