Moving from the traditional game 163 tie-breaker to this system was a huge mistake. You play for 6 months and 162 games in baseball, any tie-breaker that isn't on the field is absurd.
I think that I have this correct:
Had the Red Sox and Twins tied:
- Tie-breaker 1 = split series, move to next tie-breaker
- Tie-breaker 2 = record against divisional opponents - Twins win
That they play in different divisions and the Twins' division included the historically bad White Sox makes no difference.
I wish that scenario had played out in real life so the absurdity of taking away game 163 would have caused an appropriate uproar. One of the worst rule changes in recent years.
