IPA FINEST FIREBALLERS AND FLINGERS NAB GOLDEN ARM TROPHIES
The game is called baseball, but many times the name of the game is pitching. The best moundsmen were named by the Islandian Pro Alliance today and the 2085 Ruthlandian Union Golden Arm went to Waleska's little right-hander Barney Brayton and the 2085 Tycobbian Union Golden Arm was presented to another little right-hander Allie Tuthill of the High Mesa Buckaroos. This year's winners may be short of stature, only 5' 10", but they stand high on the hill.
BRAYTON KING OF THE HILL IN RUTHLANDIAN UNION
The Ruthlandian Union Golden Arm this year was Barney Brayton. Just 25 years old, he compiled a 13-9 record in 32 starts for the Westerners, tallied 162 strikeouts in 237 innings and recorded a 2.50 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .215 batting average against him. Waleska wound up fourth in the RU South and came in 13 games back of division winner Belair Beach at 77-77. This is his 5th year with the Westerners. This is his first Golden Arm. So far in his career, Brayton is a modest 54-48 with a 3.42 ERA.
Number two in the Islandian Times RU Golden Arm poll was Kerby Mars of Forest City. Just 24 years of age and in his third season, he was second in the RU in victories. The Firebird righty starred with an 18-9 record and a 2.69 ERA. Mars made 33 starts, worked 247 innings and fanned 172 batters. Teams could only hit .218 against him. He kept Forest City in the pennant chase against Colfax in the RU West. The Firebirds ended up in second place, 5 games behind the pennant-winning Black Sox.
Third in the RU Golden Arm balloting was another Waleska Westerner, closer Andre Deschamps. Just 25 years old, he stood out with a 12-5 mark and 11 saves in 57 games. Deschamps chalked up 2.09 ERA and led the Ruthlandian Union in that category. Opposing clubs hit a weak .220 against him. He tossed 177 innings and struck out 124 batters.
