Obviously I’m excited as a Tigers fan. I have wondered though how big of a story they are nationally. I won’t be a total hypocrite because I have been very vocal myself about the expanded playoff. I though last years World Series was a joke (and based on the ratings America would agree) and a product of letting in too many teams. I think the bye actually hurts the deserving teams that were great for the whole season and stood the test of time. Anytime you let in more teams you minimize the importance of your regular season and open up your playoffs to be subjected to small sample size theater. However, for the league they are giving extra fanbases something to root for and pay attention to and it work. I have been enamored with how the Tigers have erased their deficit and found themselves up to the possible 5 seed. So since I can’t change it I may as well enjoy the heck out of it.
