CBO Analysis
It is now trade month as we can start determining which teams have realistic shots at the playoffs and which teams should look to the future. In our individual leagues, we will look at a few player on the pretenders teams that could make an impact down the stretch. As we stand now, 14 of the CBO's 28 teams are above .500 and 12 are below .500 with only two teams--Salem and Roxbury--winning more than 60% of their games and only two teams--Lexington and Malden--losing more than 60% of their games.
Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:
Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Salem Witch Hats (123.4, +)
2) University Point Deathclaws (113.0, ++)

10) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (99.2, --)
11) Oberland T-51s (95.7, --)

27) Spectacle Island Reapers (63.4, --)
28) Lexington Synths (51.5, o)
Brotherhood League
Salem continues to cook in the 2312 season, now four games up on the CBO's best record. The Witch Hats are winning nearly 2 out of every 3 games on the season and currently are tied with County Crossing for the best record in the last team in the CBO at 8-2. Only University Point at 9-1 has been better. The Slog and Nordhagen Beach are tied for 3rd place with 40 wins apiece.
Nahant won the BL in 2311, but the Celtics are currently in 5th place at 35-41 with a huge dropoff in productivity in 2312. As of today, the Celtics are 8th in runs scored (349) and 11th in runs allowed (391). 3B Diamond Ball (.338/24/65) has not been the problem on offense, which is the 2nd-best team at stealing bases with 110. Part of the problem has been hitters 5-8, where C Stuart Costantino (.254/1/18) is the only hitter hitting over .250. The top two starters--Zack Million (5-2, 3.45) and Astro Puptent (3-5, 3.56) have been decent, but the bullpen has been terrible with only Old Glory Radcliffe (2-1, 2.87) pitching decently out of the bullpen.
Looking at teams like Nahant, Easy Town, and Malden, it may be time to start looking to the future and how they can deposit unneeded players for some future help.
For the Celtics, they may want to consider moving one of the 28-year-old starters in Million or Puptent. They also could look to deliver a still-decent 34-year-old LF Boots Yellowhair for a team needing depth in the outfield.
Easy Town has a lot of talent in the minors right now. A starting point would be to consider moving 1B/OF Baktu DaWell in his 30th year. The seven-time all-star has been productive, batting .349/12/39/4 SB, but the Assaultrons could turn his star power into a number of useful prospects.
Malden is still years away, so they may have to give up their one "star" in 1B Andy Stamey (.278/5/26). We're not sure what they could get for him. The reality is that the Grognaks need time to develop their own talent, which will be the beginning of their turning point as a franchise.
Institute League
Fort Hagen has not been blowing any team out of the league with their power, but they still have been able to maintain the IL lead for most of the season. Bunker Hill has made a bit of a move up, including recently sweeping Starlight, to grab 2nd place with Sunshine Tidings sitting in 3rd place at .500.
Concord has been the IL's hottest team, going 7-3 in their last 10 to technically be back in the race. The Radtsags are the NCA's top pitching team, allowing an NCA-low 329 runs and the best Starters ERA (3.24). While their records are not impressive, all four starters have an ERA of 3.58 or below: Leyden Aigg (5-9, 3.58), Chad Nailgun (5-6, 2.68), Mel Gorgeous (6-5, 3.42), and Fio Treelover (8-6, 3.10). On offense, though, Concord is badm ranking 11th with 326 runs scored. Only two players have been particularly impressive on offense: CF Duff Fee (.320/15/42/27 SB) and second-year 2B Greenthumb Gray (.298/21/46). With the acquisition of 1B Hax Kim (.314/7/29) in a trade with Vault 81, the Stags have one more big bat to wreak havoc for the second half of the season.
Cambridge and Lexington appear to be the only sellers in the IL with the Coursers not really out of the playoff hunt but not likely to get in it either. Cambridge is a young team that has several players who look to be close to busting out, so we most certainly do not propose busting up the entire team. One player that could get some interest to add some more talent is 19-year-old 1B Front Flash Gordon (.189/3/7). With 1B Jimmy-James Sessoms, the 5th-overall pick in 2311, probably set to be the long-term solution, Gordon could grab a pitcher or a middle-infield prospect.
Minutemen League
Goodneighbor has been able to maintain its lead over Jamaica Plain with a two-game led. As mentioned earlier, the Deathclaws are the CBO's hottest team, currently on an eight-game winning streak to push themselves just four games back of the Hancocks. No other team is considered to be a contender in 2312.
Spectacle Island is the most disappointing of the ML teams, sitting in a 6th-place tie with Atom and tied with Glowing Sea for the SCA's worst record. Hoping to build on just missing the playoffs in 2311 after finishing 69-61, the Reapers are on pace to have their worst seasons since 2304 when they finished with a .367 winning percentage. Few players have stood out, but 1B Zod Gaycey (.309/18/53) has been the most productive on offense. Rookie LF Esau Babz (.274/12/33) has looked good in his jump straight from the CYL to the CBO. SP Chris Teddybear (6-3, 4.25) has been the best pitcher.
Along with Spectacle Island, Southie, Quincy, and Atom are all out of the playoff race for now and should make moves while they can. For the Reapers, they should look to move some veterans, especially 1B Homestay Lovetap (.373/6/18) who has been relegated to the bench this season after being one of the top home run hitters over the past nine seasons with 31 being his previous career low. In fact, we are pretty sure that the Reapers have intended to move him all season. Other veterans they could offload include Teddybear, RF Dan Squirrel, C Knicker Trout, and injured SP Jalep Temper.
Southie's oldest player on the CBO players is a tie among three 27-year-olds in RP ugly Ed Baker, RP V108 Robinson, and LF Pudding Ohnderitz. The Brews should stay put unless they want to consider positional trades in the minors.
Quincy's team appears to be going nowhere fast with an aging team and few eligible veterans for helping other teams. RF Baywatch Fischler (.267/3/19) is probably the most talented player that they could get something for, and the Gunners have seemed to indicate that he can be had.
Atom is also a team with few overall veteran prospects that seem desirable. 3B Shane Stabb (.342/11/36) is still productive at 35 years old. Cats fans may rebel if they get rid of one of their favorite players, but he would probably return the most talent.
Railroad League
Roxbury has had a few struggles this week but still holds a lead in the league. FHE, Egret, and Vault 81 have all made some progress in making it a league race, trailing by 2, 3, and 5 games, respectively. Oberland and Diamond City are trailing right behind those three teams for six teams in the playoff race.
The Swatters thought they may have something going on in 2312 but have faded in the past six weeks. Part of that fade is having the SCA's worst offense, ranking 14th in runs scored (309) while ranking 1st in runs allowed (288). In other words, Diamond City needs to win low-scoring games, but they are just 10-19 in one-run games without that additional run support. The reason Diamond City has been successful is to have the SCA's best Starters (1st at 3.17 ERA): SP Paul Stains (8-6, 2.50), Phil Pearlman (8-6, 3.97), Macho Lopez (6-5, 3.24), and Aldo Sanch (6-6, 3.09). RF Magnum Peaeye (.284/24/62) is the offensive star. Second-year C Cole Spice (.315/11/46) has been good, too.
At 31-45, the Glowing Sea Radscorpions are probably ready to sell. Like the other expansion teams, though, the Scorpions are still thin across their franchise and will need time to build up their team. A couple veterans that could bring in some extra talent include C Garth Invader and 3B Quay Swimmer. However, we are not expecting trading those two players away to get much more potential. Like Southie, we think that Glowing Sea should pretty much hold steady.
CBO Standings
CBO Players of the Week
June 24 - Veteran Babs Rooth had a great week at the plate for the Bloodbugs to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the North Charles Association.
The 33-year-old County Crossing right fielder built a .556 average on the strength of 15 hits in 27 at-bats, 7 home runs and 13 RBIs.
So far this season, Rooth is hitting .373 with 26 home runs.
The South Charles Association made it official today: Purple Gupta is the Player of the Week.
He really stood out on the diamond this week with a .545 average to take home the award. The Roxbury shortstop went 12-for-22, drove in 14 runs, scored 6 times and hit 1 home run.
Thus far this season, Gupta is hitting .279 with 7 home runs, 44 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 68 hits in 244 at-bats and has played in 69 games.
July 1 - Hax Kim demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.
The Concord catcher wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .667 average (12-for-18) with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.
Thus far this year, Kim is hitting .314 with 7 home runs, 29 RBIs and 23 runs scored.
His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Sebastian Lort was rewarded with the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.
The scrappy FHE Yao Guai right fielder hit .769 while collecting 10 hits in 13 at-bats, 1 home run and 9 RBIs.
In his 2312 season totals, Lort has 9 home runs, .361 BA, .378 OBP, 41 RBIs and 43 runs scored.
CBO Players of the Month
NCA Hitter - Jig McGhee battered North Charles Association pitchers all June and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.
"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old McGhee told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."
In 27 games, McGhee hit .446 with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and scored 25 runs.
In the 2312 season McGhee is hitting .369 with 14 home runs.
SCA Hitter - To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Barker Cocoa. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as University Point's first baseman pinned down the South Charles Association Batter of the Month trophy today.
He hit .320 in June collecting 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
This season, Cocoa is batting .303 with 81 hits and 27 home runs. He has scored 65 times and has 65 RBI.
NCA Pitcher - When Fio Treelover takes the hill, chances are good for a Concord victory. At least that's the way it was in May.
He excelled with a 6-1 mark and 2.09 ERA in 7 starts, tossed 43 innings, fanned 19 and held others clubs to a .213 average.
That's why the Radstags star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the North Charles Association.
Treelover has started 16 times this year, pitched 90 innings, fanned 53 batters and walked 33. His current record is 8 wins and 6 losses with a 3.10 ERA.
SCA Pitcher - Paul Stains certainly found a groove in June. The Diamond City starter posted 4 wins last month to easily claim the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month.
During the month Stains was 4-0 with a 1.38 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 45.2 innings and had 29 strikeouts.
This season, Stains shows a 8-6 record in 19 games, 140.2 innings, 90 strikeouts, and a 2.50 ERA.
NCA Rookie - Campy Madrid's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Lexington left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.
In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month.
During the month he hit .359 with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs. Madrid also scored 15 times and drove in 14 runs.
Madrid is hitting .357 this year with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has 40 hits in 112 at-bats, 1 walk and a .365 on-base percentage. Madrid has played in 29 games.
SCA Rookie - Last month Frank Heart overwhelmed South Charles Association clubs and nailed down 4 victories.
Today the Jamaica Plain starter was awarded the league's Rookie of the Month trophy.
He was acclaimed for his outstanding performance during the month of June.
Heart soared through the SCA with 4 wins and 2 losses and a 3.74 ERA. He struck out 25 in 33.2 innings and other clubs to a .246 average.
To date this year, in 19 starts, Heart has crafted a 6-5 mark with a 4.22 ERA.
CBO Noteworthy News
June 20 - CBO Updated Propects List: With the mid-season mark upon us, now is a great time to update the pre-season BNN Top 100 Prospect list with what we have learned to this point. This year, 19 year-old 3B Tommy Whitetiger of the Lexington Synths is the #1 prospect overall.
Here is the top 10:
1) 3B Tommy Whitetiger, 19, Lexington Synths
2) 2B Duff Cooly, 20, Concord Radstags
3) LF Campy Madrid, 18, Lexington Synths
4) SS Geralt Rivia, 20, Lexington Synths
5) RHP Gary Harvard, 20, Diamond City Swatters
6) LHP Melvin Terminator, 18, Atom Cats

8) 2B Will Hell, 19, Quincy Gunners

10) LHP Freon McMahan, 21, Cambridge Coursers
June 23 - "I tried to approach this game like it was just another day, but when I walked out there on the mound, it was different," said Oberland star reliever William Butcherman. "I'm supposed to have ice water in my veins, but not today. It felt like my first day on the mound in my rookie season."
It certainly was different. Butcherman was about to try for his milestone 300-th career save and put his name in the record book.
As he has endless times before, Butcherman rose to the occasion and disposed of the FHE Yao Guai to save the T-51s 8-5 victory, allowing no runs and 1 hit in 1 innings of work.
Butcherman has appeared in 553 games in his career and put together a record of 46 victories and 44 losses, 3.31 ERA and 300 saves. He has thrown 600.2 innings, struck out 599 and walked 324.
June 27 - Sebastian Lort truly did it all at BosCom Circle.
The FHE Yao Guai right fielder hit for the cycle -- collecting 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run -- as he paced his club to victory, 6-5, over the Roxbury Rad Sox.
"You know that sweet sound you hear when you hit the ball just right? I heard that every time today," Lort said later. "It was a heck of a feeling."
It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Roxbury pitching for 4 hits in 4 at-bats and his name will now go into the record books. Lort also racked up 4 RBI and 1 run scored in the game.
Sebastian Lort hit a three-run double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off Justin Hale in the 7th.
To date Lort has chalked up a .359 average with 9 home runs, driven in 40 runs and scored 43 times.
