Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues

by Evan Guy

1 August 2312

Quantum, Cherry Continue to Lead

With just three weeks remaining in the 2312 NWL season, the Quantum Nukalurks and Cherry Ghoulrillas continue to lead their divisions in the race for the 2312 Nuka Series. Both teams were the preseason favorites to win their divisions. The Ghoulrillas have the tightest race, up just two games on Orange with 18 to play.

What does a .424 batting average, 10 home runs, 26 RBIs, 30 runs scored a .468 on-base percentage get you?

Honors as the Nuka World League Batter of the Month, evidently.

Doman Northsea was given the award today for a campaign that saw the Orange Tourists first baseman lead all other hitters.

Northsea is currently hitting at a .370 pace with 16 home runs, 57 RBIs and has scored 58 times.

It doesn't happen often, but it did in July. A reliever, Shamar Hunt, is the recipient of the Nuka World League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Ghoulrillas bullpen ace starred with no saves in 1 relief appearance with a 3-0 record, logging 30.2 innings, 19 strikeouts, 10 walks and a 2.35 ERA.

Hunt has earned no saves and a 4-0 mark this season with a 2.85 earned run average in 11 relief appearances. He has worked 53.2 innings, yielded 49 hits, struck out 32 batters and walked 21.

The Nuka World League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month award went to Big Bear McIntosh of Orange. He was named the best rookie in July.

Last month, the 27-year-old Tourists second baseman played in 24 games and hit .462 with 16 doubles, 1 triple and 5 home runs. McIntosh also scored 23 times and drove in 25 runs.

This season, McIntosh is hitting .394 with 113 hits, 10 home runs, 62 RBIs, scored 56 runs and played in 70 games.

In the Amusement Park League, the Bradberton Disciples hold a three-game lead, and the Grandchester Flying Ants have a 2.5 game lead. All other teams are within eight games of .500 and officially alive in the playoff race.

When Wally Oppenheimer stepped up to the plate in July he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the Amusement Park League Batter of the Month award.

The young Dry Rock Gulch left fielder posted a .366 batting average with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 17 runs. Oppenheimer also worked pitchers for 9 walks to post a .458 on-base percentage.

In 48 games this season, Oppenheimer is batting .299 with 55 hits and 15 home runs. He has scored 43 runs and driven in 37.

The premier pitcher this past month in the Amusement Park League was Dante Brown of the Galactic Zone G-Force. He was one mighty tough pitcher, finishing July with a sensational 3-0 record and a 2.22 ERA.

The G-Force star made 4 starts and surrendered 25 hits in 28.1 innings. He struck out 10 and walked 10.

Brown has made 9 starts this season, posting 5 wins and 2 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .267 against him and he has 23 strikeouts in 56.1 innings with a 3.36 ERA.

Both leaders have a two-game advantage in their divisions in the NWLRL. Leaders are the Nuka Jolly Elves and Hubologist Camp Barkers.

Not known for his offensive prowess, Ruins Rogers set the league afire in July and took home the NWL Rookie League Batter of the Month award.

The Wixon third baseman posted a steady .431 batting average, 6 home runs, 26 RBIs and 20 runs.

In 48 games this season, Rogers has compiled a .393 batting average with 77 hits and 12 home runs. He has also scored 43 times and knocked in 52 runs.

Nuka Jolly's reliever Longbow Lou Deere really put the chill on opposing teams in July and today was acclaimed the NWL Rookie League Pitcher of the Month.

Deere made 9 relief appearances, picking up 6 saves and compiling a 1-1 mark. He struck out 17 while walking 4 and put up a 0.82 ERA in 11 innings.

This season, Deere has 8 saves in 22 relief appearances with a 1-1 mark and 1.71 ERA.

Far Harbor Maintains Lead, Dalton Farm-National Park Tied

It is bizarre that an entire month has passed, and the headline remains the same. Exactly one month ago, we ran this headline. At the end of July, the Far Harbor Ghoul Whales still have control of their division, and the National Park Gulpers and Falton Farm Fog Crawlers enter again tied atop the Fog Division. There are 18 games remaining in the regular season, so let's see what may change in that time.

Hazmatt Zuniga has been the model of consistency over the past month and has been a tough out, claiming the Vim! League Batter of the Month trophy for July.

The Far Harbor first baseman hit .367 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He was also walked 17 times and posted a .479 on-base percentage.

This year, Zuniga is hitting .310 with 77 hits, 17 home runs, 55 RBIs and has scored 50 runs.

The Pitcher of the Month Award has been announced and the Vim! League winner is Dalton Farm hurler, Birdman Galvan. For his standout performances in July he has been named the league's best pitcher.

During the month, Galvan excelled with a 2.20 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 32.2 innings he struck out 31 and gave up 33 hits and 13 walks.

This year, Galvan has compiled a 6-3 mark with a 4.79 ERA.

Birdman Galvan was awarded July's Rookie of the Month trophy by Vim! League officials today.

The pitcher for Dalton Farm registered a 2.20 ERA in 5 starts, logging a 5-0 record and 31 strikeouts in 32.2 innings.

In 10 starts this year, Galvan has posted 6 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 67.2 innings, allowed 76 hits, struck out 45 and has a 4.79 ERA.

The Mount Desert Island League also has one team in control and one division tied. The Rayburn Point Patcheyes lead the Old Longfellow Diviwsion, while the Cliff's Edge Actors and Brooke's Head Behemoths are knotted up in the Small Berha Division.

It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 24 Cookie Roberts has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Southwest Harbor Rippers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in July, which have garnered him the nod as the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .333 average with 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

Roberts is hitting .290 for the season with 12 home runs, 31 RBIs and 38 runs scored. He has 53 hits in 183 at-bats and played in 48 games.

Sean Jones of the Haddock Cove Engineers strung a bunch of high quality starts together in July to earn the Mount Desert Island League Pitcher of the Month trophy.

For the month he finished with a superlative 4 wins and no losses and a 2.25 ERA. The Haddock Cove star started 4 games, pitched 32 innings and struck out 17.

To date this season, Jones sports a 8-3 mark with a 3.54 ERA in 12 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .271 batting average and has 44 strikeouts in 86.1 innings.

There are two division ties in the Vim! Rookie League Standings. In the Western Atlantic Division, the Glowing Grove Brainiacs and Rock Point Barnacles are tied at 26-22. The same goes for the Eastern Atlantic Division where the Longfellow Pips and Huntress Island Ug-Qualtoths ae both 28-20.

Even though he is a newcomer to VIM! Rookie League, Ricky Quan put up some good numbers in July and earned the VRL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Vim Factory's offensive leaders with a .500 average in 18 games. He also racked up 7 home runs, 21 RBIs, and 23 runs scored.

Quan is batting .364 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs this season.

The VIM! Rookie League scribes have selected July's Pitcher of the Month and have awarded the honor to Wash Ington of Longfellow. He was outstanding on the hill last month and has the numbers to prove it -- a 5-0 record.

The Pips star performer made 5 starts with a 3.16 ERA and surrendered 30 hits in 37 innings. He struck out 42 and walked 25.

Ington has gone 5-2 this season with an ERA of 7.38 and 81 strikeouts in 68.1 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .272 against him.
