I agree. I think most sports games fall into this "lull" where it's easy to leave legacy issues in, while introducing new systems that pretty much never get polished further than their initial release.
I get it though. Sports games release yearly and it's not a whole lot of development hours, and it's even more true for a small studio like this. For that reason, I don't think you can ever find a yearly sport sim that is "flawless" or fully polished.
They are still faring better than EA Sports, who love to gut a feature out of a game, then re-introduce it 6-7 years later and label it a brand new cutting edge feature...
