In the first of what will likely be an active trading flurry, the
Boston Red Sox moved 32-year old LF
Rob Refsnyder to the
Washington Nationals in return for 26-year CF
Victor Robles, 25 year-old 2B
Darren Baker, and 21-year old SS
Juan Garcia. The
Nationals retained 100% of
Robles salary ($2,650,000).
Refsnyder was on the trading block and didn't have a spot in the outfield. Picking up
Garcia, and to some extent
Baker, gives a little minor-league depth, while
Robles has a shot to make the starting lineup given his defense and speed. If he doesn't pan out, I will move him and not be out salary. Assessing the trade,
Boston Assistant GM
Brian O'Halloran stated that "
I don't have a firm opinion about this trade proposal."
