Delayed but not denied...
The Rays are off to the World Series! The team that frustrated me throughout the regular season with its inability to hit with any consistency has become a juggernaut of sorts, going 9-3 so far and getting the big hits when they need them. Today they were up against one of the game's best pitchers in Robert Ahlstrom, and after knocking him around in Game 1 he had his good stuff today, fanning 10 Rays, but they got to him in the 6th thanks to a 2-run
Carson Williams double, and then
Yordan Alvarez did his thing again, homering in the 8th to make things a bit more comfortable. Alvarez followed up his ALDS MVP award with one for the ALCS and we'll be happy to see him complete the hat trick in the World Series. And the pitching was outstanding once again, which was the one thing they could count on during the regular season.
Aldry Acosta gave them 5 shutout innings with 7 whiffs and the bullpen was spotless until
Erubiel Armenta gave up a 2-out homer in the 9th to lose the shutout.
So who will the Rays be facing in the Fall Classic? Insert the shrug emoji here as Atlanta has tied up the NLCS and this one will go a while:
