Sole Survivor Series: Fort Hagen Silver Shroud vs Vault 81 Dwellers
Game 3: Colt-45, Silver Shroud Wallop Dwellers in Game 3 of SSS
Riding the 4-hit performance of shortstop Brennan Colt-45, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud got a road win against the Vault 81 Dwellers, 8-1, in Game 3 of the Sole Survivor Series. Colt-45 was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 doubles, while scoring 3 runs for the Silver Shroud, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 3 games to 0.
Fort Hagen relied on the bat of Orcin Cardinal to get the win. The right fielder ripped a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Silver Shroud ahead, 2-0. For the game, Cardinal had 2 doubles and 1 triple in 4 at-bats.
"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Fort Hagen manager Darnell Bright.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at CURIE Inc. Field in Boston.
Game 4: Sole Survivor Series Sweep to Silver Shroud
Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.
It was the latter case in 2312, as the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud topped the Vault 81 Dwellers 3-2 tonight at CURIE Inc. Field to win the Sole Survivor Series. It was the 1st title in franchise history.
SP Sarthis Idren was outstanding, pitching 7.1 innings of shutout ball. He allowed four hits and struck out two. La'Ray Kalel pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing two earned runs off Harry Byrd's 9th-inning home run. Three Fort Hagen batters had two hits and an RBI, including Jaxon Grits.
"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Fort Hagen third baseman Grits, who was named series MVP.
The Silver Shroud took the series 4-0. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the North Charles Association Institute League and a 82-48 record.
Fort Hagen manager Darnell Bright grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Grits's words.
"Jaxon said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.
Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
