Game 103: New York Highlanders vs. Boston Americans
It seems to be the case that any Johnny Lush start will come with very little run support. While that was the case again today, the Boston Americans (59-44) outlasted the New York Highlanders (50-53) by a 2 to 1 score. The win, coupled to a Washington Senators (59-44) loss moved Boston back into a 1st-place tie in the American League race.
Rookie sensation Johnny Lush (14-11) twirled a gem today, as he allowed just 1 earned run on 6 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5 in his 106-pitch outing; Game Score 75. Barney Wolfe (11-12) was tagged with the loss despite keeping the opposition in check to the tune of 2 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 59.
Contributions at the plate came from Jesse Hoffmeister (1 for 1, Triple, Run), Bill Lange (2 for 4), and Frank Chance (1 for 3, RBI, Walk) in the win, while the Highlanders were led by Jesse Burkett (1 for 3, Double, RBI) and Roy Thomas (1 for 3, Walk).
Player of the Game: Johnny Lush (Season: #16 / Career: #16)
