Game 105: Boston Americans vs. Detroit Tigers

Well the good fortune that Sam Leever has enjoyed over the last few months came to a crashing end today. In a disappointing outing (coupled to sloppy defensive play), the visiting Boston Americans (60-45) fell to the Detroit Tigers (53-52) by a 7 to 6 score.

The Tigers starter did not factor into the decision, as Doc White lasted 6 innings in which he surrendered 6 earned runs on 11 hits, 1 walk, and 1 hit batsman; Game Score 28. Norwood Gibson (10-8) was called in to cover the final 3 innings and did an outstanding job to earn the win; as the spot starter scattered 3 hits without allowing a hit or walk. Sam Leever (17-7) took the loss after he permitted 7 runs (5 earned) on 15 hits and 1 walk; Game Score 28.

The Tigers had a nice offensive output today, led by Mike Donlin (3 for 4, Triple, Run, 2 RBIs), Dave Fultz (3 for 5, Run, RBI), and Charlie Hickman (2 for 3, Run, RBI, Sacrifice Fly, Stolen Base). Solly Hofman (3 for 4, Double, Run, 2 Stolen Bases), Fred Clarke (1 for 5, Homerun, Run, 3 RBIs), Frank Chance (2 for 4, Triple, Run, Hit by Pitch), and Bill Lange (2 for 4, Triple, Run, RBI) played well in the loss.
